(ROLE) CULT 5.0

cult.

On Monday at 10 PM, Otome, Luxanna, Dimitri, and Manwol receive an encrypted e-mail.

d4rkness@Wiwaldi.edu
Come to classroom 1304; see attached map.

No one is in the halls as they creep to the abandoned classroom circled on the map. The normally locked door opens, revealing the room inside.

There are no windows and the lights are off, leaving the room cast in near darkness. Only a handful of candles, in what's probably a fire hazard, keep it illuminated; the fog being emitted from a personal fog machine doesn't help with visibility. What was once the teacher's desk has been pushed to the center of the room, with chairs seated around it. For some reason, there are cat decorations everywhere, mixed in with various (garish) occult items and patterns.

As of Week 3, a lamp has been added to the room to give it some light.

There is a cat-shaped bulletin board hanging on the wall, which reads:
ยป This world is trying to assimilate all of you, who started this year, into its setting. If it succeeds, you'll remain trapped in this school, your souls drained until you cease to exist.

ยป Each week, this place will make active efforts on a few select students. Once the weekend hits, they'll all be beyond saving. However, if any one of them is killed before then, they'll all be freed from the link, at least for the remainder of the week.

ยป Death isn't necessarily permanent. Those who died can potentially be saved. However, no such option exists for the fully assimilated.

ยป At the start of the week you'll be informed if you may recruit one person to join the cult. Provide a list of 4-8 people you want to recruit and you'll be told which one of them is approved. If you extend an invitation and they accept, they will join the cult the following week.

ยป Preventing the assimilation aside, even the original cult was meant to be a secret, so it's important that word doesn't spread. If anyone else learns about your involvement in the cult or your task, whether from your mouth or another's, this world may enact consequences. No guarantee on who they might affect, so it's up to you to decide if risking harm upon another is worth it.

As of Week 3, more notes have been added.
A summary of what the others were told previously:

ยป This world is forced to act according to an internal logic. It isn't always aware of everything going on, and it can't break whatever rules it wishes. This would presumably be why you all arrived here with your minds intact, rather than already assimilated; it's possible that this defence mechanism has manifested in other ways as well, to try and correct things to how they should be.

The bulletin board is my own summary.

[tiredly,]

I was assigned to take over this... cat cult. Or rather, I agreed to—a decision I wouldn't have reasonably made in my right mind, so I imagine, in the aftermath, that contradiction was what allowed me to become more aware of what was going on.

Kaoruko was also assigned as a member. Most likely, we were intended to fulfill a different purpose, but because the logic broke for me then, I never received it.

... I'm not so sure.

Initially, my assumption was that if it wanted to prevent those alive from returning home, it would have to provide a justification. In terms of what makes "sense" for the setting... it can only come up with so many reasons that students can't leave campus after graduating, if said students want to.

But if it's desperate enough, it might try to forcefully go against that. [a beat] Keep in mind, though, that that's only a guess. That might not be where it focuses its efforts.

Luxanna, you were blinded last week.

And there are still people who think they're supposed to help stop us from killing.

Perhaps it wants us all to start careers as teachers and school faculty when we've finished our own schooling.

[ kind of? joking? ]
inaccordant: (4. light ahead)

[personal profile] inaccordant 2021-07-12 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
... That hint is probably what we want to consider. My guess then would be that it wants to focus on the "plot", even if it may no longer be able to obtain the assimilated puppets it wants.

Considering some of the classes this school has...

[can't even say that's not a possibility?]

[personal profile] illuminance 2021-07-12 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of class will you teach, then?

[ lux please use your time more wisely ]
lifeless: (still empty!!!)

[personal profile] lifeless 2021-07-12 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And you're still injured. If we're going to kill Leo, then you need someone else with you.

Dimitri went last week with Otome, right? I'll go with you.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Is the goal to get through all four seasons and presumably graduate? Or is the world trying to rush us through? Graduation means ending and the notes I read were indicating the writer wanted this to be more of a neverending thing...
illuminance: (pic#14839868)

[personal profile] illuminance 2021-07-12 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
... I can't stop you, but I think that's unwise.

I was blinded because I was already a suspect. I'm sure to many people I still am. Everyone is doing a good job of catching the correct killers, and it would be better to ensure they catch me - someone they already know of.

If any evidence points them to Otome, she might end up like Byleth. If evidence points to Dimitri or Manwol, they'll be aware of two of our members that they previously had no idea of.

[lux please

but he'll humour her... just this once...]

Self-control, apparently, since that's one people seem to keep asking me about.

Ah. I could do with such lessons, it seems.

[personal profile] inaccordant 2021-07-12 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... I suspect that while things might end with graduation, it may desire some kind of "finale" before it wants to let us go.
inaccordant: (10. exasperated)

[personal profile] inaccordant 2021-07-12 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... You're under a lot of stress.

It's no excuse. But I appreciate the sentiment.
lifeless: (thoughts (thots))

[personal profile] lifeless 2021-07-12 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
...So you received all of this information when you agreed to join. But then you became aware, and decided to use it in order to prevent this from happening?

[she just gestures to the board at the word 'this']

...Did you still believe in your false memories then?
inaccordant: (7. hope2)

[personal profile] inaccordant 2021-07-12 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not. Just don't beat yourself up too much for it.
illuminance: (pic#14839863)

[personal profile] illuminance 2021-07-12 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't promise that. But I don't think I'll need to worry about it for long, anyway.
inaccordant: (8. hydrangea)

[personal profile] inaccordant 2021-07-12 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
More the other way around. Because I became aware on some level, I was able to receive this info. I don't believe this cult was actually intended to know about the assimilation at all, at least not deliberately on this world's part.

[he nods.]

I still believed in my fake memories. However, there were things I could then accept with less struggle than the other Dorm Heads, such as the fact that none of you agreed to be here.

I almost always do.

[ha.]

Better than some, at least.

[personal profile] repress 2021-07-12 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I see... Hopefully you're right and it does not lash out at us. But regardless, I think we were able to convey a clearer picture to the others.

[ ...He doesn't want to think that Adora's death was meaningless. ]

At least it's clear then that this world does not have infinite resources with which to attack us. This is a fight we can win.

The pinnacle of achievement.

[ ha. ]

Well. I'll do my best.
