and if something happens to you i doubt it'd be that easy anyway

It might not be satisfying, but sometimes, working with the enemy to some degree is the best way to end things. So you're not wrong.

...i've been thinking about trying to talk to it. the story, i mean. see if it's open to negotiation or anything. it clearly wants to talk to us, so maybe we can figure out what it really wants to do

I feel like that's trying to avert your eyes from what it's already saying it wants you to do, but do as you please.

It wants a finale, and it's been fairly clear on what kind of finale it wants.
You can try and bargain, but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't work. You're not necessarily dealing with a fully rational, sentient being here.
