Oh dear - who is SOMEBODY? To not have a refined taste for Taichi's Exclusive Works...
I'm doing alright! They're complicated but I enjoy a good mental exercise. There's much to do - don't worry too much about me, though I do appreciate your care.
Hmm! I'm not sure what I'm looking at... and I think that is primarily because this is a piece of technology unique to your world? Chad is correct that it's possible to summon items from your home worlds. Did he explain how the Voucher exchanges work? You're not from my Dorm, but it's the first week and you're all in a... unique situation, so I feel as though it's the least I can offer. Thus, I'm willing to explain even if it's not entirely in my best interest as far as Dorm Wars goes.
it's just yamato 🙄 it sounds like ALL of you are really busy...you're not still stuck in a ton of meetings are you? that's right though. sort of. it's from a world that's connected to mine, it's called a digivice. it was with me before i got here and i'd really, really like it back chad said that you could do things to earn vouchers and gave me a couple of examples, but is it really that straightforward? and how does the summoning thing actually work? but i wanted to talk to you about the dorm wars anyway...if that's okay
Unfortunately, you're right. It's meetings in between classes of our own. But hopefully there's a light at the end of this week so we can finally see you all in person!
I see... Yes - it should largely be that straightforward. We can talk about Dorm Wars - I think that competitions are only really fun if everyone knows the rules, after all. I like games, but no one likes a game they don't know how to play, you know?
I've received a few questions already, so I'll be using the example I was asked about. A First Aid Kit - for basic scrapes and the like - would cost 10 Vouchers. (Even if this sounds like a lot, you'll have more Vouchers by the end of the week!) Dorm Heads can add or subtract 2 Vouchers to all exchanges, depending on how they want to play - Vouchers directly translate to Points for us, after all. Individual components of a First Aid Kit, like one roll of bandages would cost 2 Vouchers. However even with a discount, nothing is free, and so everything must cost at least 1 Voucher for exchange.
I like to haggle and bet - but the two types of items I do my best to avoid turning into a game are things like medical items, or sentimental items. I'll always try to give full discount for those, even if you're not in my Dorm.
yeah, something like that i can't say i envy your job right now though... malik and i were saying the same thing. it feels like the rules of stuff keep changing on us even though supposedly we should know all of this already it's like trying to catch up with a year's worth of homework right before finals
but yeah, those examples are really helpful so more vouchers = more points, less vouchers = less points, and points = ranking in the dorm wars. highest points wins. is that right so far?
didn't peg you for a gambler though i'm sure a lot of us would appreciate that, especially with how much people are missing so that means we can exchange vouchers with any of the dorm heads, but then those vouchers would go to that dorm head's point for example, if i gave you vouchers for my digivice, you would get those points instead of chad
Mm, naturally that would be frustrating. Some of this information was always meant to be new - but other things about the academy you would hopefully know if you intended to enroll. But if you didn't... Well, I'll do my best to help get you all caught up. Please continue to ask questions as you need.
Yes, both of your statements are correct! That's how Voucher Exchanges work for Dorm Wars, and all Vouchers will go to the Dorm Head you're exchanging them with. Which is why it's a little bit putting me at a disadvantage to tell you this but... Well, never let it be said that I'll let people play with their resources blindly.
I like gambling a little bit less than haggling - but straightforward exchanges feel lifeless to me. At the very least, I'll try to make sure that no one ever feels cheated after walking away from an exchange with me. That would sit poorly too.
thanks. i know you're busy and i'll keep this brief but i'm trying to make sure chad doesn't block my emails by bugging him too much or whatever i don't think it's really putting yourself at a disadvantage so much as it is being helpful and that kind of approach says a lot about you which is why i wanted to know if you could tell me something how do you feel about the dorm wars? do you want to win, or is it just a fun game, or is it just part of your job?
Well... You don't need to keep it too brief. I like talking to you too - some of my responses might just take a bit since I'm doing other things. Promise I won't block you.
As for Dorm Wars... I want to win - I'm a competitive person, even though I won't exactly be heartbroken if I lose. But I have a goal, and an idea for a project, and I think that if I win Dorm Wars, I might be able to make good progress on those. Still - in case you haven't been told, trying to get a Dorm Head to tell you which Task Answer is theirs or anything invalidates your Task, so you can't try to get points specifically for your Dorm. So for example I don't care so much that I hope that anyone goes against their own heart when looking at the task options. This might change later if the weeks pass and I'm losing... But for right now, I'd prefer sincerity, and to know if I have an honest chance at victory.
thanks haha i don't mind the delay and stuff so like...that pocket universe thing could help you guys too then? nobody's mentioned that part yet, no i'm still deciding how i want to approach the tasks in the first place but yeah, that explains it very well
you're the kind of person that would rather the participants give it their best instead of just doing it to win at whatever cost for now
i don't think that's a bad thing ...are you friends with the other dorm heads? it sounds like all of you just met
It depends! To answer your other question - I like the other Dorm Heads well enough, but I wouldn't say we're close. We did meet recently. So I don't know what goals they might have with the pocket universe. I'm a bit of a planner, so I'm just toying with an idea I have for it, if I get it. I'd have to negotiate with whoever's in my Dorm if/when we win, though. But yes, winning the pocket world might support that Dorm Head's goals and personal gain.
"At whatever cost" sounds so dramatic... There's some lines I won't cross no matter what. Like I don't see a point in winning Dorm Wars pretending to be someone I'm not. But if it's the last week, down to the last few points, and someone's between two Task answers and think one sounds more like me, and wants to support me, so long as I don't know about it... It would be a lie to say I'd hate that.
But you do seem to understand my thoughts well so far - I'm relieved.
[there's a lull in responses like he's debating how to reply. or he got distracted. probably both, frankly.]
it's not like it's a hard position to understand i have friends that i think would feel similarly and i'd never blame them either i think you were right that the appeal of this place is that there's that promise of a goal or a wish when you earn a degree. everybody wants something but it depends how they go about getting it i'd rather compete against somebody who's sincere than someone who isn't ...is that why your welcome letter was so many pages?
I hadn't realized it was so much in comparison... I often err on the side of more information than less - I felt especially so since I didn't know when I'd have time to greet everyone properly! If I arrived somewhere without a host, I would at least like a message from them...
Though I've been trying to find the balance between my tendency toward over-explanation and how much a person might be willing to read...
no, i'm sure they appreciated that part at least showing up in a new world is always a little weird, especially if you don't know what's going on or remember or whatever but maybe stick to a voice memo next time? or wait the phones don't work a picture slideshow?
it would probably keep people's attention spans for longer than just text. i know it'd work for me i have though, yeah. this is the second time this has happened, but this place is a little more normal than the first world that's how i got that device i'm looking for and that's why it's important i get it back
You called it a Digivice? Hmmm. Can I ask what it normally allows you to do? And in honor of being straightforward - will you be asking Chad for this exchange or myself?
right it does a few things, but mostly it helps me give power to my partner so he can evolve ...in honor of being straightforward, i'm not sure yet sorry. i know i probably should ask you because you're the one who's asking the questions and answering stuff but i am still part of chad's dorm
Hehe, no, it's alright, I understand. I would've been displeased if you immediately said me. Loyalty is something I like too. In that case, please let me know what you decide - I won't negotiate prices with you until you make a decision. But even if you choose Chad for this exchange, I only ask you remember me for the next one, or if you ever decide a dorm switch is in your future.
no, yamato has his own partner. gabumon mine's agumon but thanks for understanding i know it's meant to be a competition, but i think it would be okay to make an exchange with you one time as long as somebody from your dorm made an exchange with chad in my place there's nothing against the rules for that, is there? and i appreciate it, but...to be honest, the dorm switch isn't going to be up to me but i'll keep it in mind
Oh! What is Agumon like? I presume I will have to ask Yamato about Gabumon.
Hmmm, while there's nothing against the rules for that, it does take the wind out of the sails of the competition. I'll consider the offer, but I'd rather not invite opportunity for poor trades to be made. I'd rather you make a deal with me because you sincerely want to lend me a hand, too.
May I ask what you mean that your dorm switch wouldn't be up to you?
[give him a second before he sends a pretty terrible drawing that looks close enough to a baby.]
he's the best. it's pretty hard to describe him, but it's pretty hard not to like him either even if he spends more time thinking with his stomach than his head. but he's...pretty much my best friend. i think he understands things about me better than i do half the time without that device, i can't help him. if i can't help him, it's like i'm letting him down. i don't want to do that, even if he's not here right now
...anyway...i get it. just thought it'd be worth asking but it does take the competitive edge off, huh? we still have a long year, viola. who knows?
[he doesn't answer the question about the dorm swapping because it's already a weird subject and he's not sure how to deal with it at the moment.]
Oh he looks like a small dinosaur! I see... It seems like you really are very close. Have you been best friends for a long time? The idea of missing someone dear to you... It's a familiar one to me. I hope that you'll be able to meet again soon.
Well, I suppose you're right - who knows? Hmm... I've already told you I'm competitive and that's true - But I hope you know that while the invitation will always be open, I do want to get to know you outside of Dorm Wars. I know the shades can get a little murky considering recruitment is part of competition - so I'd rather clear them up now. I hope we can continue to get along, Taichi.
haha yeah, that's his child form whenever they evolve or devolve they change appearances he was koromon when i last saw him. a little different than that form ...but i hope so, too. we don't get to see them as often anymore, and we'd been separated for a bit right before i got back and then came here
i think we'll continue to get along just fine you've been really open about everything even when i'm not a part of your dorm i know you're busy with your classes and stuff but if you have time, maybe we can hang out in person next week or something i'd like to know more about what you're studying anyway
Evolving or devolving... Do you mean transforming like a caterpillar to a butterfly? And your Digivice can help with that? Wow... Is that so? If he is tied to the Digivice, is he in a different world from yours?
Well, I do think that the basic rules of engagement should be laid out fairly. Even if you're not a part of my dorm, that doesn't mean I don't care about you. I'd love to hang out when we're all free from our meetings! Do you have an interest in Political Science? Be careful, I think I could really talk your ear off.
something like that, yeah. except when they're low on energy they can go back from being a butterfly into a caterpillar the digivice helps but it's...technically us, i guess, and the digivice is a tool to help connect us
it's a competition but i do want to talk to all of you more so let me know when you're free, or i'll follow up myself next week maybe some of the construction will be done and there's more to campus to check out
to be honest i'm not sure i think i just want to hear about what other people are interested in
Oh, I've never heard of a reverse metamorphosis. That sounds cute too, though. It's you...? There really are so many forms of magic. It's hard for me to understand, but I'm grateful to learn regardless.
Oh yes! Hopefully so - the construction crews are hard at work, after all. I'm sure you'll know when the four of us can meet up as soon as it's possible.
Really? Well, that's a very sweet answer. I'll tell you what I'm interested in as long as you return the favor - I wanted to know about your passions and interests too.
