More points for doing it sooner? I'll be honest, I'm a little uncertain how I'm meant to put on a magic show without my magic.

The faster you do it, the more time you'll have to do something else.

You need money to make money. Use a voucher. You'll lose it, but get it back when you're done. Then you'll still have what you bought for later. The more extravagant it is, the more it'll cost. So think small and be creative.

I'm not sure I'm following. An example, maybe? I can be creative if I need to be. If I spend a voucher, I get a voucher for spending?

The magic show is your extra credit right? You'll get one back if you use what you bought to help you do your extra credit.

You're sacrificing a voucher this time to help you get started. Any other extra credit might not need a voucher to complete it.

It is. But who is scoring it? If I find a way to do it without spending a voucher, will I still get another one back?

That is, unless I can get some of my magic back for the one voucher.

You should get a voucher for finishing the extra credit if you did it right. So you'll have two if you don't use one.

One voucher won't get you too much. I don't know about your real magic. There's other ways to do magic, you know.

Little tricks? I understand, but I don't know if I'll be any good at that. I was thinking maybe I could use my cat in some way. He is a magic cat, after all, so anything he does is a magic show.

By the way, is there a problem telling others about the extra credit?

You won't know until you try. You're probably better at it than you think. It doesn't count if you tell people what it's about. But you can get people to help you if you need it.

I really do have a cat. Come by your dorm sometime, you can see him.

There isn't anything wrong with that, being fond of animals. Well, my cat listens to me quite well. You don't have anything to fear of him harming any little creatures in the dorm.

Do you have any sense how many vouchers it would take for a little magic back?

[dormheads]

I don't know. If I had to guess, I'd say a lot if it's the same kind of magic that's in stories. So it depends on what you wanted.

Five minimum? That's on the lower end of a guess. It'd probably be more.

What about my books? I had a spellbook and something of a journal on my person. Both are rather significant to me.

[dormheads]

If they're just books, try two vouchers.

If you can't do magic here, I doubt the spellbook is going to work. But you'll have it if it means that much to you.

[katzepaw]

[There's a long pause while he considers what to type.]

It does. I scraped it together over years and years, when I was living on the streets, barely able to afford food to eat. If I lost it, I'd have to start over from scratch, with nothing. And the journal is something more precious to me than even that.

I'm a little bit - we were told you didn't know what had become of these things. But now we are being told we can buy these things back. It is a little hard to understand the discrepancy.

[dormheads]

Sorry. We knew there would be vouchers, but not for what. We thought it was just school things. You know, like extra notebooks, or pencils, or something.

We talked to the principal. He said there's no mistakes. But now we know the vouchers can be traded for the things you guys want.

[katzepaw]

No apology necessary. I appreciate the clarification. So the principal is holding on to these things for us while we gather our vouchers?

[dormheads]

You all come from other worlds. I think he just helps bring it all here, but I don't know the specifics.

You didn't come with much so you don't have an unfair advantage for graduation at the start.
