[Well, now it's his turn to have a visceral reaction. For some reason, he sort of idly squeezes the place over his heart, but then winces and puts his hand down.

Maybe someone just needed to say that to him.]

You think they're being manipulated, and it's not true.

[Not a question exactly. Oh boy. It's not that he didn't also think that, too. But it's, unfortunately, familiar.]

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-12 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah. Well, there's sympathy there.]

. . . I didn't say that. I meant, if I were in their shoes, I wouldn't know how to trust myself.
darksubverted: (Riku (120))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-12 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Quietly, he sighs. Same hat.]

You're right.
katzepaw: (rare chalks)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-12 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . But you do believe that they believe this, that the people they are killing are being saved?
darksubverted: (Screenshot_16)

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-12 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's quiet for a long moment. He won't look at Caleb directly yet.]

...I want to believe. I want to believe they wouldn't do this without a good reason.

If you can even call this reason "good."
katzepaw: (holy water)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-12 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I would call it good.

[Murder is bad, that's something that isn't very controversial, but sometimes people have to die.]

If it's true, I would even call it noble. To let themselves suffer alone and to risk their lives to save all of us. The problem is, I don't know whether or not to believe it.
darksubverted: (Riku (109))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
[His brows pinch at that. He finally does lift his head to look Caleb in the face.]

Thinking that way will get you into trouble later. Excusing it. Killing is never good, or noble, but sometimes, it's necessary. Even with no other option. Even defeating someone evil. They should be stopped, sure, but I won't ever say it's noble. Sorry.

[Sorry for being an argumentative Disney brat.]

If it wasn't true, I don't think Adora would be gone. So... I'm going to believe it's true until I find out for sure it isn't.
katzepaw: (strip of cloth)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-13 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't mind the argumentativeness. He disagrees, but he has respect for people who will stand up for their beliefs. On the other hand, he doesn't really see the point in arguing about the ethics of murder with a sensitive hot topic teen.]

. . . Alright. Then instead, I will say that I would find it worthy of forgiveness.

You are right, though. If it was only a manipulation, there would have been no need to punish her. So. . . what, then? Do we all need to die to get over there?
darksubverted: (Riku (107))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Hm!]

...I can accept that.

[Maybe it has something to do with forgiveness.]

I don't know... I get the feeling everyone in the daycare is trying to get back here, Principal Bear included.

I suppose the question for me is whether we ought to be trying to stop them. There are people who will want to kill Otome. And. . . Luxanna, as well, considering she is suspected to be in their number.

I don't want that, but I don't know how to. . . justify to someone, that we will leave alone people who may turn around and kill us the next week.
darksubverted: (Riku (100))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
If people won't change their minds after hearing what Otome said at trial, then... I don't think they will ever change their minds at all.

I don't know if there's anything we can do about that. But if you think you might know who will go after her... She could be ready and fight back.
katzepaw: (strip of cloth)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-13 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . I don't. The people I know who might consider it, I think are standing down.

[But that doesn't mean everyone; there are people he doesn't really talk to.]
darksubverted: (Screenshot_3)

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they wanted to, or because you asked?
katzepaw: (witchwood)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-13 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it is too murky. Everyone wants only to know the right thing to do, what will save lives.

Those who thought doing this might help are having second thoughts. But I don't know if this will be enough for everyone.
darksubverted: (Riku (146))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[He sighs quietly, almost resigned.]

We're not going to know until Friday morning. Are you guys planning to use the glasses again?
katzepaw: (ink mixture)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-13 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I imagine so. We got pretty lucky last time. Beauregard guessed someone would dump bodies in the river, and she was right.

We'll see if we can get so lucky a second time.
darksubverted: (Screenshot_11)

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-13 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you do then. So we'll maybe have a little bit of truth somewhere.
katzepaw: (drop of blood)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-14 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . Is it helpful?

I think that's the question we all came to at the end of the last trial. Who to vote for. Catra and Otome both. . . killed someone out of different theories of what would be for the good of all of us.

It seems like Otome's vision must have won out, because we killed Catra.
darksubverted: (Riku (120))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-14 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of the few opportunities we have, in case one of the deaths isn't related at all to what Otome and the rest were trying to accomplish.

I don't like splitting the hairs about who was wrong or less wrong.

It helps. I'll take that much. Even if I don't enjoy the outcome, I have to face that sort of truth, too.
katzepaw: (white feather)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-14 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes you must split hairs, because we have choices to make about who to side with when both are a little wrong and both are a little right. I want to help whoever will cause the least harm and do the most to help. I certainly didn't want Catra dead for what she did; I understood it. But these are decisions that have to be made.

Were you surprised, when Catra won the vote?
darksubverted: (Riku (107))

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-14 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[He frowns.]

Not... exactly. I think what Otome said swayed everyone's opinion, even though Catra may have been trying to help.
katzepaw: (holy water)

[personal profile] katzepaw 2021-07-14 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a bit surprised. I voted for Catra, but for reasons that were a bit selfish, because I wasn't sure what the right course was.

But it sounds from talking to you that your inclination - and the inclination of the dead it seems - is to protect Otome and the others for a little longer.
darksubverted: (Screenshot_16)

[personal profile] darksubverted 2021-07-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think some people are going to accept that. They don't want to die, even if there's some kind of promise of being helped.

[Which is fair.]

I'm sure this place won't let us get away with coasting so easily. Letting them kill to help, making sure they don't kill too much. It wants a story, doesn't it?

That's boring. It's going to cause problems no matter what.
