In the common room, the walls have been painted with photo-like pictures of forests and lakes, and spread across the ceiling is a depiction of the night sky. One wall is lined with bookcases, the books ranging from fiction to non-fiction as well used course textbooks. More bookcases have been used to section off one corner for a study area, with a desk and chair provided.

Elsewhere, there are a few couches and chairs, most seated around a coffee table and with throw blankets tossed over them if you need the extra warmth. On the table is a bowl of healthy and semi-healthy snacks, regularly stocked. (Nearby is a garbage can.)

This week, there is something else on the table.

Past an entrance in the common room, a mini coffeehouse has been set up, with express machines for those who just want their coffee now and slightly more advanced equipment for aficionados. It offers a variety of strength levels and flavors to accommodate tastes all across the spectrum, along with a teapot and packets of caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea for those who prefer a different drink. There's a sink if you want to use your own mug, but otherwise, disposable cups are provided for you to use.

Pasted on the wall by the coffee machines is a detailed but clear handwritten guide on how to use said machines, complete with illustrations. There are also cute little doodles of Spring Dorm residents using the machines and drinking coffee, though they look as though they were done by someone else.

Common Room, Monday Night

[the school day is over, and while a good number of people happen to be hanging around the common room, rita looks up from her notebook and decides to speak up.]

Hey. It's not like I care about these stupid Dorm Wars or anything, but...

Why are we losing?

[modissty]

[SWEATS IN SCOREBOARD. Anyway he's just vibing nearby probably working on some stress origami or something because life is full of stressful murder and now bees are here too.

After a brief pause:]

Do we even know the exact criteria these points are awarded by...?

[goalsides]

[sitting on the floor, looking at something on his phone, he frowns.]

Who bought the medical kit from yesterday? And who did they purchase it from?

[overlimit]

Not really. We know the tasks are one part of it.

[glaring at everyone] So you better actually do them! If I have to suffer, so do you.

Other than that, the one thing that immediately comes to mind is the part about the tasks' alignments.

[overlimit]

I thought it was... that guy. [she looks at her phone.] Ichiro?

I kinda wondered about that too, though. Were the dorm heads back at that point?

[modissty]

[They are all suffering in task hell together, says his expression, which is just (Sakyou closes his eyes tiredly for a second or two).]

I was wondering earlier if one only gets a point for completing the task if it happens to align with the dorm we're housed in...

Summer ended up with more points than members, so it might be more likely that we get bonus points for choosing correctly... or else...

... Maybe the points get awarded to the dorm aligned with the task, regardless of who does it?

[modissty]

[Summer's just full of OVERACHIEVERS.]

It's possible that the tasks alone aren't the only determination of points, too, yes? Otherwise, I suppose those are the only two possibilities. I'd lean more to the former, just because I don't know how conducive to a competition the latter would be...

[Imagine the hilarity of accidentally giving another dorm points because you're an overachiever.]

Maybe. I'd wondered if things like extra credit contribute anything...

But... look at the math. There were 42 of us last week, and 37 total points awarded. It would make sense if each person got one point, and five people failed to complete a task, right?

... In which case, it would mean some of us really did end up feeding Summer points while doing our tasks.

[goalsides]

They had to have been if we got the kit in the first place. So it makes me wonder if they traded the vouchers to Sally, especially since she lost two different people from her dorm this week. Catra switched.

I don't know. Is everyone doing the tasks?

[ man he was just here to browse the bookshelf ]

I mean, I can handle alcohol just fine.

[He is just going to choose not to drink unless peer pressured. He points at the bats.]

What are these for?

[Molly does his best to copy him, and I rolled for it and he got a 16. So he does a fairly decent job of a lil crane following him! Holding it up, flapping its little wings a bit. Cute.]

Don't know what he is, but I like him. Jaunty fellow.

What would it matter if...

Wait, you think that spending vouchers might be how points are awarded?

Yeah, that's what Viola and Chad told me.

[you COULD HAVE mentioned that sooner, taichi. but also he kind of thought people know. oops.]

The more vouchers a dorm head has at the end of the week, the more points they get. Less vouchers, less points. It's why you can trade with any of them.

If you knew that, then why didn't you say something sooner!?

I kinda thought everybody knew! [wow.] Haven't you guys talked to the dorm heads yourself?

Well, yeah, but not about this.

Well that's not my fault. Other people already knew when I was talking to them, so I thought people knew by now.

[she's still glaring at him like it's his fault]

Why can't they just put that information on the damn bulletin board!?

[goalsides]

You could always ask Chad. [flatly. he did his part, stop!!]

Without knowing which task is aligned with which dorm, I suppose it's impossible to avoid that completely...

[A cute crane...! Sakyou looks suitably impressed by the 16 roll copy skill, smiling in mild amusement at its little wing flappies.]

It's a crane. In myth, they live to be a thousand years old, so they've become something of a symbol for longevity, good health and good fortune. They're a good deal more peaceable than the geese here, too.

[Which is a very low bar, to be fair.]
