FALL COMMON ROOM - WEEK 2

The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

This week, there's something else.

specialty room.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

I feel like I have to ask you that every time we talk.

[If Hope could just have ONE nice thing. For a moment, he looks at the tree again.]

You can sit and hand me things, and I'll hang them. How's that?

[for reasons he won't elaborate on but that he assumes yamato will understand, he squeezes his hand briefly before pulling away to head for the stairs to collect origami.]

The pumpkin on top and bats and cats in the branches. Sounds good to me.

[HE FROWNS. Please?! His optimism... gone. (He never had a lot yet anyway.) He sighs.]

Something has to change sometime.

Dunno. You'd have to ask Bradley or Nier, I didn't ask for details but it sounded like it was to distract Nier from something? Kind of a weird way to do it though.

Yeah, we can do that.

[ time to relocate to the tree... hope's a somber kid by default, but it's hard for him not to chuckle a little at the idea of putting halloween decorations on what's clearly supposed to be a christmas tree. he quickly stifles it, though, before returning to a more neutral expression; do not perceive. ]

Do you check up on other people this much, too?

[ he's about to say that he probably would have done something, i dunno, smarter than that if all nier needed was a distraction

but then he looks down at his leggy

and promptly shuts the fuck up again. ]

At least the moat was beneath you? [not that helpful, but.]

Y-yeah, that part I planned...I just didn't consider, you know. Physics.

[goalsides]

You overshot it? [he shakes his head.] I know you know this but stay off of it as much as you can until it's a little more stable. You'll be fine.

[ ...soft... he doesn't seem to want to let go, and thus ends up kind of mumbling into yamato's shoulder: ]

...I guess that "Love Yourself" class this week actually was kinda helpful for something.

More like...I didn't think about how the impact would affect me. Obviously, it was always going to be a better option than landing on solid ground, but I would still be falling from three floors up. Velocity doesn't stop being a thing in water.

[He lets Hope go at the preferred pace, but follows along to the tree. Okay, yeah, it's kind of weird putting Halloween ornaments onto a Christmas tree. They're fall. Sue him. Also, he saw that.

He holds his hand out for the first one.]

I wouldn't have to if other people would stop getting into trouble.

[he seems to stare into middle distance as he thinks about something. probably all of the times they've fallen and nearly died in the digital world.]

...next time you have to do something like that, ask us. Alright?

[ as long as luke does not call him out on it... they will be ok... he hands over a pumpkin ornament with a santa hat on it. ]

It's kind of hard to stay out of it when it comes to us. Didn't you see the chickens at the formal yesterday?

...Yeah, Yamato already drilled that one into me.

[he has the audacity to roll his eyes.]

Of course he did.

[said like someone who has been on the receiving end of a yamato lecture more than once.]

Then consider that the end of my scolding or whatever.

[Not bringing up the few times of laughing or smiling solidarity. He glances at the Santa hat pumpkin, and then turns to look over the tree for a spot to hang it.]

Yeah, one tried to make a nest out of my jacket. I thought it might have been Spring Dorm trying to prank us, but letting them loose during Formal... That was an every dorm attack.

[He hangs the pumpkin by a ghost tangled in tree lights, then holds his hand out for another.]

[ give him a sec to dig through the box that i've decided houses all the christmaween decorations. here is a candy corn light garland! which is very much at odds with what he chooses to follow up with. ]

...Taichi mentioned that it's a good thing we have all these silly things happening to distract us from the situation, but...it still feels wrong to be enjoying ourselves when people are dying every week.

What, he does it to you, too?

I'm pretty sure his lectures to you are a lot nicer than his lectures to me.

[but he's only mildly annoyed. sometimes...you're also used to this.]

Well...you guys have known each other longer, so that kind of makes sense.

[ yes that is clearly the reason ]

[that's clearly the reason. but he stares at hope for a second like he's debating saying something...but he grins instead.]

Yeah, probably.

[it's fine, hope is just little-brother-shaped and taichi's not stupid enough to recognize that's what happened there.]
