Good day. They say that idle hands are the devil's playthings, don't they? So if you'd be kind enough to entertain me, please gather at the "Bakery" at dusk.

We'd best be getting to work. Come alone, for your safety and everyone else's.

No one is in the halls as the two of them creep to the "Bakery".

Before they knock, the door will open before their knuckles so much as touch against the surface of the door. The room is filled with the comforting and warm aroma of assorted baked goods, along with the occasional stray scent of something that doesn't belong - is that hot sauce? A table has been set off to the side, topped off with an elegant tablecloth and a vase full of fresh flowers that certainly aren't there during business hours. The table is set for teatime with a kettle full of perfectly steeped tea, dainty containers of sugar and milk, and a small tower filled with sweets this week. A lot of them look handmade!

In addition, there appears to be a few items handwritten on fine stationary in curling calligraphy, though it appears a bit shaky in sections. For your use, there also appears to be a pen, a highlighter, and a small pad of sticky notes.

» Members of the Honor Society have the following responsibilities: conduct searches for killers, assist others in completing their Extra Credit Assignments, and encouraging the exchange of vouchers for goods and services on campus.

» Each week, the Honor Society must agree upon one person to conduct a search on. They will be able to know if this person has killed, if they possess an additional role, and receive a list of every person they have conversed with over the past week.

» Members of the Honor Society will be expected to report upon their progress of assisting others with Extra Credit. If Members of the Honor Society have successfully assisted others, they will be able to receive one voucher themselves as well as additional information gleaned by the Society Director.

» Of course, the greatest organizations are meant to grow and evolve. Some weeks, you will be able to select provide a list of three to four additional candidates of who you would like to invite to join the Honor Society. Viola will approve one person's membership, limitations and growth pending.

» Outside of the Honor Society, you may not express your membership to anyone. Each week, one person outside of the Honor Society may be made aware of its existence and its membership. You must all agree on this person before telling them. However should that number be broken, grave consequences will follow.

I'm not exactly deaf... If I had objections, I would have said something.

But I know you all wouldn't act if you weren't absolutely sure of yourselves, and I do trust your judgment.

In truth, I would be planning the same.

[ he figured the bit about trusting their judgment is why she stayed quiet, so-- ]

[she seems a little bashful at the surprise, and then hesitant, before deciding that... well, if they've all been this honest with her so far...]

... Maybe I should tell you a bit about myself. I'm the Acting Fief Lord over an area called Armelia. At present, there is a succession battle for the throne at the kingdom, and growing tensions with another country to the North. Many times, I've had to think 'what will I do if my people might be put in harm's way, and war comes knocking at my door even if I want peace more than anything else?'

It's a little similar. Murder has come, and even with the news we've received this past weekend, we are losing our loved ones.

At home, I decided that I would avoid violence as long as I could - but I would also do anything to protect my people. Your sentiments are similar, aren't they? To help, rather than to harm.

So... that is my long answer about why I cannot, and will not, condemn you. I know it's a scary, terrible decision to make in the first place - but it's also one I understand.

[she's not eager for murder - there isn't a hint of bloodlust in her feelings. she's just a wildly protective, wildly cautious person who doesn't want to lose anyone.]

[ he listens to it all pretty quietly, even his emotions not really reacting past a curious, if sad, kind of acceptance, and he nods at the end of it all ]

.... I don't know yet.

[her expression is a bit tumultuous]

I'm in the middle of investigating some rather... tense secrets amidst the royal family. But I think... a lack of preparation for war when I am the person responsible for a great number of livelihoods - that would be willful blindness.

So I'm taking care to avoid it for now, but still keeping my eyes open just in case.

[ghoststrums]

... You're right. It is best to be prepared, just in case. But-- I think if you can find a way to avoid it, that's what you should go towards the most.

You and I are in agreement there.

[though her expression turns a bit fond]

Though one of my attendants did laugh and call me naive when I declared that my intention...

Regardless, I don't intend to stray. I don't take much joy in conflict - but I also won't let anyone walk all over me or the people I care about.

Sometimes there's no choice but to fight, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least consider other avenues first. It's not naive to try that.

[ what's wrong with wanting to save everyone? ha ha. ]

Dida - that attendant - is... well, he doesn't trust easily, or believe in others. I think that his perspective is important to avoid worst case scenarios.

But... I think it's nice to try to put faith in people sometimes. Or at least put in some hard work to try to make it easier to put stock in that faith.

... if you always expect the worst, that's what you're going to get. Right?

Hmm... "Prepare for the worst, hope for the best"?

At least, that's the mentality that I've been trying go through all this with...
