[When they arrive, there sure is a building on fire! It's a pretty large building, actually—more like two buildings connected together, with two separate entrances on different sides. Both sides are, inconveniently, on fire.
In front is a crowd, mixed with onlookers and what appear to be people who managed to escape from the building, covered in burns or doubled over, coughing from the smoke. Lux and Lalli will be able to hear their distressed chatter.]
There are still people trapped inside!
It's no good! Those on the upper floors can't escape—the fire's blocking their way!
Is there nothing that can be done!? Where are the firefighters!?
[He almost says "you're not supposed to go into burning buildings" before he realizes that they're supposed to be saving people and that he'll probably get in trouble if people burn to death. So.]
Mmm. Fly people down.
[But before he runs off into a burning building, he's going to douse himself in water willingly. Might as well be harder to light on fire, right? Then he's quickly scaling the side of the building to go in from the rooftop and make his way downwards from there.]
[A nearby woman goes for Lux, holding onto her arm.]
Are you from Ladle? Please—my daughter's still trapped in there. Save her!
[Meanwhile, Lalli goes and scales the building. Once he's inside, it's clear that the fire is causing the structural integrity to weaken, as debris is beginning to fall. On the top floor, he'll see that there are some people likely too late to save—bodies burning in the fire. Some are unmoving, while others writhe in the flames.
He'll want to be careful, since being doused in water doesn't make him immune to getting burned, and smoke inhalation is still a real threat. Proceed further?]
[It's a good thing Lux is way over there and not close enough for a memshare, because boy howdy he's seen trolls burn like that before. And it's unsettling, to see people like that.]
...
[He's absolutely using his telekinesis to mercy kill those people who are beyond saving but still alive. Quickly breaking necks is okay, he can do that and move on.
He's going to hold an arm up to cover his face partially while he searches for survivors that can be saved, and he'll keep going until he can find someone that fits that description. Even if it means going down to the next floor. He'll be fine as long as he covers his mouth with his arm and stays away from the flames, right?]
[But the woman will let go of Lux. She's free to go now!
Lalli does his best, though he may find that despite his efforts, smoke of the smoke is still getting in—it's rendering him light-headed, and his telekinesis starts to falter... before it seems that he's unable to focus enough to use it at all. Hm. Inconvenient.
When he goes down a floor, he'll see a young boy at the other end of the room, trapped underneath debris as flames roar nearby.]
[ lux flies off on her broom straight for the fourth floor, but tries to keep her eyes peeled for anyone in obvious, clear rescue paths on the way up. people by open windows - that kind of thing.
also does she happen to have a pen on her person? in a pocket, maybe? maybe the devil king can help with putting out the fire or something! ]
[Very inconvenient, especially given how noodly he is.]
Kid. When I lift, you get out.
[Moving the debris entirely is out of the question, but he might be able to lift it enough for the kid to crawl out. He'll try to lift the debris directly, and then try to force his telekinesis if that fails. And if both of those fail, he's going to look for something to use as a lever.]
[Lux can have a pen for witch abilities! There might be a few open windows... but they're also all kind of on fire, so it's up to Lux if she wants to take that risk.
As Lalli tries to lift the debris, he'll hear a voice—from the other side of the room—that will sound very, very familiar to him.]
[ okay, she takes it and draws a very quick magic circle on - fuck what does she have to draw on. the handle of the broom i guess. it's a small circle. it's fine.
[Smoke emerges from the circle, though thankfully not of the do-not-breathe-this-in variety. A moment later, the Devil King appears, wings flapping to keep him afloat. Then, he begins coughing.]
—Ugh, I keep saying we should remove the smoke effect. [cough] Ow, my back... I really am getting too old for this...
[He turns to look at Lux.]
Hm... you seem to be in a situation here, Luxanna. What is it? Do you need me to set this place further on fire?
[Meanwhile, over with Lalli...
Emil is trapped on the other side of room, debris pinning him to the floor. What's essentially a wall of fire further blocks Lalli from him, gradually encroaching on the area Emil's in.
[ she is talking very quickly: ] The precise opposite. We're looking to help survivors escape the flames and we're putting out this fire. Do what you can to assist with whichever you can.
[ and without waiting for a response, she's nyooming off to the fourth floor to look for that lady's daughter. she doesn't want to waste any more time! ]
[Well fuck this child, Lalli is immediately abandoning him to a horrible death to save Emil. He's immediately jumping through that wall of flames, hoping that the water he dumped on himself is enough to stop most fires from starting on him. Anything else he'll pat out as best as he can as he goes to where Emil is.]
Emil! I know this is asking a lot, but I need you to not be weak. Push when I lift!
[The Devil King will fly off elsewhere around the building to cover more ground, then.
Lux is probably going to have to fly though some flames to get into the building, but if she's cool (or hot?) with doing that, she'll get in! As with Lalli's side, it's clear the building won't hold up for too long, and she'll have to be careful not to inhale too much smoke.
There are some who can't be saved, whether because they're dead or because they're already burning in the flames. If she ignores their screams of pain, though, she might hear the sound of a child crying from across the room.
Over with Lalli, the area with the child is absolutely collapsing once Lalli reaches Emil; without question, he's dead now. Lalli knows what he's all about, at least.
But now that Lalli's here, he can see that Emil doesn't look to be in a great state, pinned to the floor aside. Despite that, he does manage to bicker back.]
What's that supposed to mean? I'm trying...!
[His struggles aren't amounting to much, though. Lalli's going to have to do the heavy lifting himself.
Above their heads, though, a ceiling beam begins to crack...]
[ ohhh this sucks this sucks this sucks, lux is really bad at leaving innocents behind but - she's going through the fire fast as she can and headed straight for the crying child.
sorry everybody else, but children do come first, and lux has always been very duty-oriented. she's been given a task, so that's what she'll focus on. ]
[Let's not tell Emil about the child Lalli just let die in order to save his grownup ass. That's for the best.
Lalli hears the beam begin to crack though, and he looks up sharply. Running is absolutely out of the question, he's not leaving Emil behind. But what is he going to do?
As it turns out, "grab onto Emil and push outwards with as much telekinetic force as he can" is the answer. He's trying to make a bubble of safety around the two of them while the roof caves in. He can only hope Emil will get free in the process too, but we'll see.]
[As Lux heads towards the source, she'll see a young girl surrounded by flames, unable to get out without burning herself. Her dress is also caught under something, rendering her trapped for a child of her strength.
However, before Lux can reach her, she'll see a familiar face a fair distance away, by the other corner of the room: Sylas, trapped underneath debris but conscious. When he sees Lux, surprise decorates his face.]
Little Light...!?
[Is she going to go for the girl anyway? Or will she change direction and go to Sylas instead?
Meanwhile, Emil retorts back at Lalli, child murderer-by-inaction.]
I am! Come on, give me a break here!
[Unfortunately, Lalli isn't able to free Emil in time, and the falling debris hits them both. Lalli will feel a sharp piece of metal stab into his left shoulder, burning hot given that it's also on fire. Another, blunt piece of debris slams into Emil's head, as he lets out a cry of pain.
But... that's it? More debris just kind of bounces off of them, as others levitate in the air. Honestly, Lalli's been in here long enough that he'll be feeling pretty light-headed, but the Power of Gay seems to have awakened something in him! Or rather, it's allowed him to focus enough for his powers to work again.]
With the power of Gay keeping them in the air, Lalli will try to aim them towards something soft in their descent. Either a bush, or the lake, or something. Just so they're not landing on burning building or pavement or something. Because I'm pretty sure Lalli is about to get power-cucked here.]
[This building is definitely still on fire! The ceiling creaks ominously.
Sylas continues to speak, as he struggles to free himself.]
Little Light, is that you...? I need your help!
[Would I be that mean? Anyhow, Lalli can aim them wherever he pleases. He'll be able to use his powers to free Emil as well, though Emil's still heavily injured. Also, the building is still on fire around them, which continues to be problematic. Distantly, there are the sounds of people, probably on the floor below them... but on the other hand, Emil very clearly needs medical attention right now.]
[Save the child, Lux! At least one child needs to survive here!
Time to take Emil out of the burning building and to the ground level below. They're both hurt but he cares more about getting Emil help. Everyone else comes second.]
You didn't leave me behind, so I won't leave you behind either. Just hold on.
[Surely there's an ambulance or a fire truck coming, right?]
Lux will have to go through fire yet again to reach the girl. Assuming Lux frees her dress from what it's caught on, the girl will cling onto her—and then the ceiling comes crashing down. Lux will have just enough time to shield the girl with her own body, if she so chooses.
If she happens to look at Sylas as this happens, she will see him crushed underneath the debris, a piece stabbing through his torso as it falls.
Lalli and Emil land safely on the ground. The people still watching outside stare, before rushing towards them.]
What about the others?
Where is my son?
My partner's still in there!
[And so on and so forth. Emil is still rather badly injured, and his eyes flicker as if he's losing consciousness. When he speaks, his voice is weak.]
