No one is in the halls as Nier creeps to the Student Health Service Office. The door opens, and Luke waves him inside.

There is a trendy plastic letter board standing up on the counter which reads:

DOCTOR WHO
● DOCTOR or WHO?
● DOCTOR will spare someone from execution on Sunday, but under certain conditions. WHO? will allow the removal of a single piece of evidence. If no evidence is known, use "wildcard" to make it random.
● This choice is only active during the current week.
● You have to pick one or the other (doctor or who), not both.
● Deadline is Tuesday, 6 PM.

[Luke is going to beat Nier up like siblings do. He just sighs when the hand comes down, but doesn't try to swat it away. For now.]

They seem more okay with it than I am, really. [ Fear is natural, isn't it. ] But I have to be.

You make mistakes when you aren't calm. It lets the chaos inside of you steer you off the right path.

It's true, isn't it? Sometimes, you can't walk in the light, but walking in the darkness isn't a good idea either. You have to tread the middle ground. That means being calm, even when things get bad.

Is that how it works…? I’ve never known which path or decision is the right one, calm or not. I had to believe that I chose the right one.

[ To tell the truth, to lie. To help many, to help beloved few. To fight alone to not involve others, to fight together to protect more. Sometimes he wonders if there was ever a choice, if maybe they’re all just illusions because the end—there’s always an end.

Being calm in the first place can be difficult.

[ cause quite frankly nier is big mad all the time here. When people are gone and he’s alone, the silence makes it easier for him to realize that. ]

Sometimes you don't know if the path is right or wrong until you get closer to the end. Last year, I thought I was on the right path, but it was actually the wrong one.

It takes a lot of practice. I wasn't always calm. Usually, I was angry.

[ He knows, but it's so edgy... It comes to him as a surprise since Luke seems like a sweet boy, a good little brother. Nier is very unaware of the darkness in this one and i'm closing my eyes fast. ]

Yeah, right. I thought it was the end of the line for sure. But... Principal Bear kept me from giving up. And I got a second chance.

If I can pass the class I'm retaking this time, I'll be okay.

[ mm i hated reading all of that. Nier blinks because he didn't think this was about school. ]
