The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

On one of the tables is a welcome basket.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

Sometimes when people see more of the world, they may come to realize they were wrong about things they'd taken for granted. When apart from their friends, those friends may not always have learned the same lesson. It's a situation that can cause conflict is all that I mean, but I'm glad that...

Her name's Nikaido, she makes really awesome ohba gyoza, she's the one that found me and took me to the hospital when I first woke up, and she kicks mean ass!

I don't get much time to socialize.

Busy with all your crown-guarding stuff?

Oh! [ HE GOT A THING RIGHT WOW! ] You don't make friends with the royals or whatever? Or there aren't other crownguards?

Crownguard is my last name - there aren't many other families as close to the Lightshields as us. I do have an older brother, if that counts? And I'm quite friendly with the prince himself, as I've known him since childhood.

[headsplitter]

But he's not a friend? Or is he?

If Crownguard is your name and not a title then that doesn't sound like you can really do anything else but guard crowns, huh!

[illuminance]

[ just ignoring that first question. ]

Now that's not true! Now that I work with the Illuminators, I help all kinds of people, not just the royal family. My future is still bright with possibilities.

[headsplitter]

[ Like a leaf in the wind, Caiman is taken along this new conversation path. ]

Okay but then what are ya gonna do if you're not serving the royal family?! You're not a 'crown guard' anymore then right? I'm probably not gonna keep 'Caiman' once I get my head back, or I guess, I don't know -- I'm hoping I'll remember my real name too while at it, but...!

I would still belong to a family known for their servitude to the royal family. I think that as long as we support our kingdom, we're still honoring the Crownguard name.

[ but um. ]

... Your head? Ah - and you've lost your real name?

[headsplitter]

Huh. Funny. What if you didn't though, would you have to change your name?

[ And grumbly once she asks. ]

Yeah, some dick transformed my head with magic and I've got amnesia. So I don't remember who did it, how it happened, or who I was before it.

[illuminance]

I wouldn't have to change my name, but I would be something of an embarrassment if I didn't make something of myself.

... I see... I'm sorry to hear that. Is that what drives you to hate magic users so much?

[headsplitter]

I guess that's fair! Maybe. [ He doesn't know jack. ]

I dunno if I'd say I hate 'em, but they come down by where I live and practice their magic on people who can't fight back. Transforming them into bugs or turning them inside out just for the hell of it.

[illuminance]

You said you would kill sorcerers. Are they all like that?

[headsplitter]

Yeah, have and will. They're no good news, anyway.

[ Though, he frowns... or probably, from behind the mask, and looks away. ]

Guess not. One of them I found recently tried to help me even though it ended up not doing shit.

I see. Well, I'm glad to hear that you had at least one relatively pleasant encounter.
