FALL COMMON ROOM - WEEK 0

The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

On one of the tables is a welcome basket.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

I help them move on from whatever problems are keeping them here, and that unfortunately requires talking to them from time to time.

How about your cat? I've heard that one can see ghosts. [she gestures to Kissa] Can yours talk to them?

[it's hard to tell if she's serious, but she's clearly attentive]

Frumpkin? Ah - as far as I know, he can't see ghosts better than I can. Or if he does, he hasn't told me about it.

[But he's feeling defensive of his cat now.]

He has his own special talents. He can turn into a bird, or a spider, or an octopus, and he can journey between planes.

[Manwol claps her hands, looking animated.]

That's impressive! And here I thought he was just a cute accessory... I guess that means he's wearing you, huh?

[can caleb do anything cool like frumpkin]

Ja, I'm just his assistant. He's the real star of the show.

[He can't at the moment. But he's perfectly happy to let his cat take credit. He says something briefly in some sort of strange musical language and then. Frumpkin stands up on his hind paws and just starts dancing? He just does a little dance.]

He's a pretty clever one.

Manwol immediately whips out her phone so she can take a picture of Frumpkin, nothing else matters now.]

Does he have his own Youtube channel? Twitter? Patreon? If I wanted to donate to support him, then who should I pay?

I don't know what any of that is.

It means that I appreciate him and believe in his potential! I think he could make millions if he wanted to. Hey, you should be taking photos of him doing cute things instead of just sitting here! You could sell them to the highest bidder once we get out of here.

Photos? [He is a ye olde.]

Well - I can see the logic in this, that people would pay to see him be cute. But he does things like this whenever I ask him to.

Mmhm. [she turns her phone around so he can see the photo of Frumpkin dancing on her screen]

That's why people should pay you to ask him. You can manage his finances, be his agent. Use that money to buy Frumpkin whatever he likes, and maybe use some of that to buy something nice for yourself -- like clothes.

[These clothes are clearly new, and were actually very expensive, but they still somehow manage to look a little shabby and understated. It's just a very practical looking heavy winter coat, a cozy scarf, and a fairly simple tunic, trousers, and boots with a lot of unnecessary straps. It's fine; he reacts with only mild dismay, almost as though he's used to having his general appearance ruthlessly criticized.]

Frumpkin doesn't need much, but I'm always in the market for fine paper. What is wrong with these clothes?

[Manwol taps a finger to her mouth in thought.]

They're just... [she waves a hand like this is an explanation] Lacking. In a lot of ways. Have you considered wearing animal print? You and Frumpkin could match.
