FALL COMMON ROOM - WEEK 0

The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

On one of the tables is a welcome basket.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

... I don't know that I can be afforded such a thing. I'm a Crownguard, and I have my duties.

Even the employees at my hotel get days off. Are your duties more urgent than taking care of the deceased?

I generally do consider taking care of the living more urgent, yes.

How do you take care of them?

By keeping them alive.

Do they really get into so much danger that you can't afford to relax and every now and then?

I do strive to protect my entire kingdom...

Hm. [Manwol looks momentarily conflicted, but it passes quick enough.] Being responsible for so many people... Did you always want to be a knight?

It's better than something so boring as estate management.

Oh - no! At my parents. Before I joined the Illuminators they wanted me to do that kind of thing, and I would never get to see much of the world like that...! That's all. I'm sorry.

No, you're right. Estate management is extremely boring. Which is why I always leave that kind of stuff to the hotel manager. [manwol can't do taxes so she makes a human do it] So you wanted to be a knight in order to go exploring too?

[ still a little tentative... ] Yes. I wanted to use my strength to serve my kingdom, as the Crownguards have always done - as my brother does. But I didn't want to be confined within its walls, either.

The Illuminators allow me both travel and a fulfillment of my duty.
