In the common room, the walls have been painted with photo-like pictures of forests and lakes, and spread across the ceiling is a depiction of the night sky. One wall is lined with bookcases, the books ranging from fiction to non-fiction as well used course textbooks. More bookcases have been used to section off one corner for a study area, with a desk and chair provided.

Elsewhere, there are a few couches and chairs, most seated around a coffee table and with throw blankets tossed over them if you need the extra warmth. On the table is a bowl of healthy and semi-healthy snacks, regularly stocked. (Nearby is a garbage can.)

This week, there is a welcome basket near the bowl.

Past an entrance in the common room, a mini coffeehouse has been set up, with express machines for those who just want their coffee now and slightly more advanced equipment for aficionados. It offers a variety of strength levels and flavors to accommodate tastes all across the spectrum, along with a teapot and packets of caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea for those who prefer a different drink. There's a sink if you want to use your own mug, but otherwise, disposable cups are provided for you to use.

It was. Places like this-- they don't just exist for the purpose of offering whatever it is they claim the reward to be. Maybe that's actually real, I don't think we can say for sure, but... they still get something out of it in return, even so.

They just took their time making it clear.

A whole week to start to lure people into a false sense of security, sure. I had my own doubts as soon as they told us about the wish for graduating and the pocket dimension for winning the dorm wars.

Not to mention the part where that's brand new? Kind of a funny coincidence that they just started that program when we happened to show up.

I had my hopes that it wouldn't turn out to be-- well, a death trap, but it feels like that's that. I doubt any of it is actually a coincidence.

[goalsides]

Especially if none of us remember applying to be here or anything. [a pause.] Not to mention the principal supposedly picked us out specifically to be here. So I don't know what that means either.

It means, at the least, that whatever can be gained from having us here-- whatever they want-- they wanted it from us.

We're going to need to find out what that is.

[goalsides]

Then we're back to where we started with trying to figure out what everybody has in common that could be wanted by whoever really runs this school.

[ambiography]

[which comes with a shake of her head-- she still seems pretty stressed, just in general.]

But I don't think we're going to just be stuck guessing the entire time. If there's something they're after, it should be apparent in how they try to get it out of us.

Like what, scare tactics?

It's a possibility. Any methods used might say something about what they're trying to accomplish, as well.

Then let's keep an eye out for anything that might count as a method. I don't know what that'll look like now, but it can't hurt.

The tasks, for one. We'll see what they continue to be like, and the things they want us to do might say something about it.

The tasks were already a little difficult for some people. If they're meant to earn us points or something, somehow, I don't think they're going to get any easier.
