In the common room, the walls have been painted with photo-like pictures of forests and lakes, and spread across the ceiling is a depiction of the night sky. One wall is lined with bookcases, the books ranging from fiction to non-fiction as well used course textbooks. More bookcases have been used to section off one corner for a study area, with a desk and chair provided.

Elsewhere, there are a few couches and chairs, most seated around a coffee table and with throw blankets tossed over them if you need the extra warmth. On the table is a bowl of healthy and semi-healthy snacks, regularly stocked. (Nearby is a garbage can.)

This week, there is a welcome basket near the bowl.

Past an entrance in the common room, a mini coffeehouse has been set up, with express machines for those who just want their coffee now and slightly more advanced equipment for aficionados. It offers a variety of strength levels and flavors to accommodate tastes all across the spectrum, along with a teapot and packets of caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea for those who prefer a different drink. There's a sink if you want to use your own mug, but otherwise, disposable cups are provided for you to use.

I might've been a little foolish and acted younger than my years. I promise I won't collapse on you.

Hurry up and go drink some water, then sit down before you lose your lunch.

I've replenished my fluids, no need to worry. I'm on the mend, if you can believe it.

My name is Claude, by the way.

I'll believe it for now.

Do you have a hobby, Claude?

[shaft]

I do enjoy a bit of poetry and going on long rides... It's too bad I wasn't able to bring my steed along with me.

And you?

I don't like to sweat needlessly. If I can spend a day relaxing with a comic book or two, I'm satisfied.

[shaft]

I don't think I've ever heard of that kind of book. Is it a genre?

[ercnerd]

It's a medium of storytelling where everything is illustrated. You can find comic books of all genres if you look hard enough. You should check them out sometime!

[shaft]

Ah, so it's fiction? [ he only reads textbooks. like a NERD. ] I don't mind a tall tale every now and then.

Have you ever heard a story like the one we've found ourselves in?

[ercnerd]

I don't know about a story, but that reminds me: someone thought this must be a dream.

[shaft]

I've heard that one too. Also that this might be an isekai.

[ercnerd]

Isekai?

[shaft]

It's a story where a protagonist gets transported to another world to save it from peril by defeating the villain.

[ which in this case... the principal? ]

[ercnerd]

Hm . . . do you think this world is in peril?

[shaft]

It doesn't look it. It could just be juvenile and misguided.

[ercnerd]

To me, it looks empty. We'll have to wait and see what we learn on Monday.

[shaft]

[ He's curious about that as well... Where are the staff? ]

Are you looking forward to class?

[ercnerd]

Not at all! And you?

[shaft]

[ he sighs, looking exhausted ]

No. I've already been through school once. I think that's enough.

[ercnerd]

[That sigh reaches his very soul.]

Same here. Say, should we skip and let the kids attend?

Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed. We could turn this into a vacation instead.
