SUMMER COMMON ROOM - WEEK 0

The common room is as bright and open as the rest of the dorm. Beanbag chairs and even more hammocks are situated around for any of your resting needs, because who needs couches? There are a few blankets on the couch just for comfort, but the temperature is never cold enough to need them because of chill. There's also an absurd amount of pillows.

The walls are decorated with paintings that are either modern art pieces or done by kindergarteners. There are also photographs tacked onto the walls as well, of seemingly random things like a vase of flowers, a mailbox, a bird on a tree branch. The photos are less about grand views and feels more like someone testing out a camera.

On a table is a welcome basket.

In the common room, there's a door that leads to what can only be described as an Occult Room for some strange reason. Unlike the rest of the dorm, this room is dimly lit and is crowded with items—a skeleton that may or may not be real, taxidermy animals, really creepy looking dolls, an actual coffin, etc. On a table to the side is a Ouija board, a few tarot decks, and crystal ball.

[she releases his hand, and takes a sip of her tea, still watching him.]

I take it you're unfamiliar with this place as well.

[ It's time for him to take a sip of his tea, too. It's really nice and warm, calming. ]

Yeah. Some things look kind of familiar, but a lot of it doesn't. [ ... ] It's a lot nicer here than home, though.

Do you know what this is?

... I've never seen anything like that.

[ So they're both doomed here. ]

[she exhales a breath through her nose, and tucks the phone away again, shaking her head.]

I was hoping that would have been the familiar part.

[amain]

Sorry... The things that are familiar to me are usually not things I can use—aside from an elevator.

[ He deflates, but... ]

I'm sure someone in our dorm is familiar? Or maybe the dorm head.

Yes, I was hoping they would be around, but... [they clearly are not? Byleth raises and drops her shoulders in a minute shrug.]

They must be busy.

[ He nods, considering the dorm head... like a village leader or something. Close enough. ]

It's a large metal box that takes you up and down floors in a building. Basically a replacement for a stairwell.

[she nods easily in response. maybe they're... filling out paperwork, or something. important people always seem to be busy when she needs to talk the most.

but this elevator shit]

A moving box? People ride in it?

[amain]

Yeah. The box would open with two doors sliding out, then people enter.

[ Is magic more interesting or technology... It seems like technology wins. ]

I've only seen them in one place at home, though. It isn't common—at least working ones aren't common.

[she raises a hand to the height of her face, like a student asking a question.]

What powers it? Horses?

[amain]

Horses...? I guess that would make sense.

[ He strokes his chin because he does understand what she means. Animal-powered things used to be normal, he heard. ]

I think that elevator uses electricity. The same thing that powers these lights since they're not using fire.

[divineimpulse]

[byleth is now glancing at the lights with some new-found surprise.]

Magic...?

[amain]

[ NO, BYLETH... I'm crying cause Nier legitimately does not know how to explain electricity. ]

Electricity isn't magic, apparently. It is some kind of manmade fuel? Think of it like that.

[divineimpulse]

[she nods, easily accepting this, and logs it away for further exploration later.]

The light is different, here. [and she'd been wondering.

she sips her tea, looking at the lights thoughtfully.]

[amain]

These lights are kind of similar to the ones I remember from the abandoned military base, but... The ones here are a lot nicer.

[ He hums as he sips his tea. How does he say it? ]

They're welcoming?

It's hard to think of them as something other than candle light.

[he's right—they are welcoming. the technology here is, frankly, mindblowing.

she resolves not to think about it too hard.]

I think I prefer candlelight myself, but... I don't know. As you said, it seems like magic, so it feels like there's a mystical element to it.

[ While he knows that he's out of place and finds comfort that he isn't alone in this, he does genuinely worry. ]

Will you be all right?

[ With this rat shack. ]

It seems less warm. [although why that is, she can't quite put her finger on. it's probably fine, though.

and back to nier:]

Yes. Will you?

[amain]

[ Maybe one day Byleth will figure that out. Nier merely tilts his head at that. ]

Yeah. It's not like we have much of a choice.

[ But he keeps on smiling because the answer is still yes. ]

It would be better if we could actually fish in the pond.

[but as if adding insult to injury, it is surrounded by feisty ducks. sad.]

You fish?

[ Nier is quite interested... ]

Actually, I saw there's a shallow river outside. There might be fish there.

[she nods!]

It's something of a hobby.

Do you?

[amain]

I do, but it’s more of a necessity... I learned to enjoy it, though. It’s peaceful.

[ Still same hat. ]
