We're born with them.

What exactly are they...?

[he holds up a hand, as dark-elemental energy swirls for a moment, before fading.]

Think of them as an especially strong form of magic, I suppose. The key part is that they typically either torture the wielder to death or drive them to insanity.

[huh, it does kind of look like lux's light magic. also wow i'm glad hugo truly is a jan character.]

...yeah, I don't think I would ever want to let that happen to me either. There isn't any way to stop it besides, like, dying?

[STOP WHAT DOES THAT MEAN]

I wouldn't say it's inevitable. You primarily lose control if you give into the temptation for power, or to despair and hate. [i have no intention of doing so. i have no interest in those things.] But it doesn't entirely matter, when how society perceives you is equally important.

[dead people with tragic backstories.]

Let me guess. People with powers are treated poorly because the powers are supposedly the taint of the world? [he doesn't sound thrilled about that, actually.]

[simply,]

More that people aren't keen on taking chances with walking time bombs.

Stupid. That's not always a guaranteed thing though right? If you don't give in to the power, you can manage it.

Usually, when it becomes known that someone has those powers, it's already because they're losing control.

In any case, that's why it was critical to remove the source of corruption first. People's perceptions will never change until that's dealt with.
goalsides: (Big like LeAnn Rimes)

[he thinks about that.]

No different than how people see our friends back home. Even when they were doing good and fighting for our side, a lot of people only saw them as bad. I'm still not sure how people will see them now.

[there's something wry in hugo's expression—almost a light smirk, actually.]

Changing people's beliefs is a far harder task than something like fighting a god. But, sometimes, it's equally necessary to step up.

Yeah. Our friends shouldn't be to blame for the corrupted Digimon that ruined everything. Now that the battle's over, I've been thinking about trying to find a way to prove that. But I don't know.

...you think things will change in your world now that the first step's been taken?
