Mice can pass on the Rash in my world. Back when the Rash first appeared, people were able to section off and protect themselves from the bigger trolls and infected humans. But nobody knew to look out for the mice too. Many of the earliest settlements fell because of that. One infected mice could spread through an entire town of non-immune.
Luke watches him for a minute, still petting the cat here and there. It's funny (not in a haha way, but a wry way) Lalli hadn't even considered this? How many other people don't care about graduations because they're thinking more about the terrible murders than other things?
Not that Lalli wasn't considering it because of that, or anything.]
[Another question he doesn't really know the answer to, unfortunately. But at least he can explain that one a bit better.]
I just want to go home. Maybe I would use it to help Onni? He made a stupid deal with a god and he might die because of it, and if he dies then I'll be the only one of our family left.
[He's hugging his knees to his chest now.]
I can't die here and leave him alone, because then he'll give up too. And if he dies, I don't know what I'll do.
...we can't change the world. There's millions of trolls out there, and as long as even one still remains the Rash will still be here. But if I get rid of the Rash, it won't help Onni. He'd still be taken away at the end of summer.
[Hm. Lalli makes a decent point. He's quiet for a moment, just petting Kissa.]
Well, that's if you think changing the world only means doing something big, like getting rid of the Rash. Maybe you can't do that. But you can change the world in smaller ways.
Don't you think saving Onni would change the world because he'd still be in it?
[He gathers Kissa up in his arms. Hopefully she doesn't mind being held like a baby, but if she is very Cat and dislikes it, he will hold her on his shoulder.

[Case in point, he will give Kissa more attention once she's in his lap, but not annoyingly so.]
I'm more fond of mice.
no subject
[That's an odd one.]
Why mice?
no subject
They have a bad reputation, but a lot of it is wrong.
no subject
[Lalli your zombie trauma.]
no subject
Wild rats carry diseases, yeah. They don't do it on purpose. It isn't their fault. But... I get it. It's not your fault either.
Mice and rats are cute, but... I think I'm more fond of pet mice.
no subject
...The Rash doesn't exist here anyway, so mice here are fine.
[Why did he feel the need to soften his words like that? He doesn't do that usually.]
no subject
If you graduate and get your wish... are you going to get rid of the Rash?
no subject
...
I don't know.
[He actually looks distressed by this thought now, because what he actually wants is on a much smaller scope than that and he can't have both things.]

[Everyone in Fall Dorm is there for a very specific type of reason(s), it's easy to see now.]
Sometimes it isn't about saving the world. It's about saving someone you care about, and then together, you can both work on changing the world.
no subject
It feels selfish when you say it like that.

[And Lalli is. A bit self-centered at times.]
It's just the two of us left. If one of us dies, the other will be left alone.
no subject
[There isn't anything wrong with being a little selfish sometimes. Depending.]
no subject
[They are family, and protecting Onni is what he wants the most right now.]
That would be my wish then. To help Onni finish his deal with the god and save him from dying because of it.

[He gathers Kissa up in his arms. Hopefully she doesn't mind being held like a baby, but if she is very Cat and dislikes it, he will hold her on his shoulder.
He walks over to offer her back to Lalli.]
Thanks for letting me meet her.
no subject
Mmm. She likes you.
...she goes wherever she wants, so if you leave your door open she'll come visit you.
[Luke might actually get two cat visitors if he leaves his door open.]

My door is always open, so to speak. But I guess I'll have to really leave it open now.
