[there's the slightest laugh at that - a little tired]
You needn't be concerned with all of us, though I think it's a very kind sentiment too. I believe we're managing as best as we can... it's been a surprise to all of us.
A lot of us - not all of us, but a lot of us, myself included - are a little bit used to this type of environment. Not exactly this, but having to be on the lookout for threats, hidden danger. . .
[she huffs - a little between amused and exasperated]
While reassuring in a sense, that's worrying in others - Beauregard told me of her injuries and aren't you hurt as well? I'm hardly at ease knowing that you've been hurt...
But well - you do have a point, I suppose... I'm not all that familiar with things like murder - at least, not in such... tangible terms. It's disquieting but as long as I'm in a position where I'm meant to look after everyone, I don't believe it's proper for me to be floundering.
Yes. But I will say, there is something of a difference. Both of us received our injuries in battles we chose to go into, with knowledge of the danger we were facing.
I understand. And I wouldn't tell you to simply look the other way. I only feel a little for the ugly position.
Is that so... Was it something to do with your Mighty Nein activities? Or would you rather I not ask?
And I do appreciate your understanding - in truth, I appreciate everyone's understanding. I think they're doing their best to be polite to us, even as they hold onto a healthy amount of doubt.
Ja. Different fights, but against the same nasty guy trying to summon something evil and cursed into the world for no reason I can understand aside from being a lunatic. We found out what he was up to, and most of everyone we spoke to wasn't concerned enough to try to stop him, so. We decided to try.
[. . .]
Doubts and mistrust in such unusual circumstances are to be expected. I don't think the four of you are deceiving us. At least not where it comes to your concern for our well being, which is all that really matters.
For the rest of it - you seem like students to me, you seem surprised by what's happening, so I don't think there's been deception. But I've been wrong before.
[softly and a little bewildered:] For no reason? Wasn't concerned enough? [hey why are people] I - well, I'm glad that you took it into your hands, as dangerous as it apparently is...
[but there's - well, she can't nod, but the mascot costume bobs a little to try to communicate the same thing]
Well... we are students, and we are surprised. I truly don't blame anyone for their suspicion - trust is a thing to be earned, after all, especially in this unique situation. In this case... well, I hope that you are eventually able to reach a point where you can comfortably believe your judgments are not wrong.
You are the one studying politics, right? A lot of the political types don't tend to appreciate distractions from their own agenda. Easier to pretend it's less of a threat than the thing you want to be focused on and hope it goes away?
[At least, that has happened to them on two different occasions.]
You are already helping. But I'm glad you're understanding of why some have their suspicions.
... I see... Yes, that does tend to happen. Though I think it rather unforgivable when it does. The primary agenda of a civil servant is to serve the people, and you'd think helping stop some malevolent force from harming the common people would stop that.
[ridiculous!!]
Well, if I were in all of your shoes, I'd certainly be just as dubious. That's what I've told a few people now, so I don't mind the additional searches for information and understanding.

It's more difficult if that isn't your reality.

I hope to help with that as much as I can.
