[ Claude looks both defeated and furious. He's also kind of wonky, leaning heavily on one side, and basically reflecting his inside on the outside.
Under his breath, he's just muttering, ] If we get out of here, I'm setting this collar on fire.
[ Given that Catra is right with him, he will probably try to help if he sees her struggling, but also he only has one arm, so he'll leave that to Sakyou while he soldiers on toward the cathedral, frowning deeply as the lot of them progress pathetically. ]
We need to be careful there's no ambush lying in wait.
[Arriving at shore, Sieghart gets onto his knees in the sand, drops his sword, and looks down at his deformed right wrist. This won't do. Gritting his teeth, he grabs his right hand with his left and pulls, guiding the dislocated bone back into place.]
Ugh!
[It hurts, of course. He pants from the effort, because he isn't emotionally repressed like Sakyou. Fortunately, his right hand, though shaking from the pain, feels fine and his wrist no longer looks out of shape. It's probably discolored under his glove, but he keeps that on as a half-hearted splint.
Climbing onto his feet with his sword in hand again, he eyes the group in front of him. The bandaid's absence bares the words that he was hiding under his visible eye: DEATH BEFORE REVENGE.]
Hey, Claude. What's wrong with your shoulder? Let me reset it.
[she is, like. . . really not okay. as they sputter and crawl to shore, she begins coughing, each heave sending more pain shooting through her entire body, like crystalized ice and needles sticking through her veins. she barely registers Sakyou and Claude's voices. she barely registers the words now apparent on Sieghart's face. her vision is swimming, her leg is dripping both water and blood, and everything just]
[aches]
[especially now that the adrenaline is wearing off. and so, thank goodness Claude is there, because once they are safely on dry land she is passing the fuck out from a combination of blood loss and pain, promptly going limp in Claude's grasp. GOODNIGHT EVERYONE]
[fortunately Aki said Sakyou would carry her so we can continue on towards the chapel instead of spending another tag round going uuuh what happened to our cat]
I'm really proud of them though. This is such a revenge-driven group! Interesting to note. Just think that's neat.
Catra gets carried, Sieg provides some medical attention, and the rest of them Determinator on through! They came proceed the rest of the way through the jungle - the occasional hiss of a snake or buzz of insects might put them off a bit - but at least they're right to follow the reflected color.
And there's a cry of something not quite human suddenly - pained and distressed. Some voices can be heard at lower volumes, arguing, before muffled. The people still conscious might be able to pick them out as people they haven't heard from in some time, or even some voices they're used to hearing from campus. After a bit of time, a path opens straight ahead and they'll realize that the chapel has seen better days. It's a little run down, part of it more ruins than functioning church, but there's still some mysterious beauty to it.
They can continue straight down the path, or they can circumvent it to stay within the cover of foliage. But the church is right there - and those voices might be some that you can't ignore.]
[us: dancing around revenge tropes all cyoa dana, forcibly banging our noggins into their shared vengeance:
Well, he'll cast the other two a worried look but it seems they've got their...limb realignment handled well enough. He's got one (1) cat now!! OUR CAT. It's fine. He's trying not to jostle her around too much while they go so she's not in any further pain, oof. He's also absolutely not put off by any snakes or insects or pain or literally whatever the fuck man this guy has laser-guided focus that refuses to quit. Is it really emotional repression if you just react to pain like an alien!!!
Also for hilarity he sheds some broken glass out of his clothing that some of yall can step on if you decide to be mean. It's... the remnants of the heart bottle that was still on his person, which didn't survive the fall... That's probably left some more stabbies on him too, god bless, glad for my terrible roll luck. Hopefully we didn't need that.
ANYWAY. The good thing(????) about being responsible for this waterbottle Catra is that he's like, .5% more likely to be cautious than he would be on his own. Which means he considers sticking by the foliage for 5 seconds longer than he otherwise would before continuing straight down the path WISH HE WASN'T LIKE THIS. It's fine, he's figuring he can just shield Catra with his tiny twink body if anything goes wrong. THE VOICES, HELLO.]
[ claude, 5 minutes ago: we need to be wary of an ambush claude, now: RUNNING FULL SPEED INTO DANGER
Unfortunately, Claude is more or less delirious from his own injuries, the searing pain still running down his left side, and the pounding of his head. Also, I'm going to say a snake bit him (non-venomous), just because it's been that kind of week. And when they reach the edge of the trail, his first instinct is to stop, to be wary.
But all that goes down the drain very quickly, ] S—...
[ He cuts off, tired, but with a sudden well of energy, just bolts into the building as fast as his wonkyass body will take him. It's probably a trap, but he's got his impotent smoke bomb gripped in one hand. It won't work, but maybe he can lob it at someone's eye. ]
[Sieghart follows at the back of the group as the rear guard when an insect buzzes near him. He backhands it with a scowl. Waterlogged and aching as he is, he has little left in the way of patience. His uneven steps are wary still, however, and the traipse through the jungle yields him no further injuries.
His eyes widen when he hears the voices. Caution clamps down on the impulse to rush in, but the other two have already gone before he can so much as tell them to wait. He stays behind to shout:]
Stop!
[But perhaps it's too late. Perhaps what they've chosen is the correct course of action. There's no way to know and that's what concerns him.
The church would be beautiful, even in the dilapidated state that it's in, if it weren't so creepy.]
[Catra is far too unconscious for most of their journey through the jungle that she doesn't really get a say in whether they approach the church or not. it's fine!! she is just sleeping!!]
[but. . .]
[when they hear the voices, she begins to stir slightly in Sakyou's arms, slowly coming to. her ears twitch, her eyes slowly flutter open a crack, and a word is muttered dry and cracked in her lips]
They arrive at the church and as injured and wrecked as Sakyou and Claude are, they'll be able to recognize the sight in front of them. For Claude, his wyvern caught in chains, bleeding from where she's struggled against them and gases in her side. For Sakyou, Catra, and Sieghart, there will be Kayo, Scorpia, and Elesis all bound and gagged - Maya pulls away from them, her hands shaky and form trembling. She whirls around to face the others, eyes wide.
Yamato and Mandricardo are in front and they look similarly desperate before all Mandricardo manages to say is - ]
Sorry. We - We have people we want to save too.
[He and Yamato both press onto mechanic devices in their hands and then two things happen at once: a blinding flash of light that will keep Catra, Sieg, Claude, and Sakyou from being able to see - and then the explosion of the entrance of the cathedral collapsing from bombs that were placed where its integrity was weak. The four of them will be crushed under the clatter of stained glass and rubble, the last noises they hear before the boom the distressed and frantic crying out of their loved ones from home.
Are you thinking about your loved ones before you die now?]
Sakyou's used to working alone, is the thing. He's the sort of person who charges ahead without really thinking much about the consequences, because what do consequences matter when you're the only person who suffers from them?
But this time, rushing in does more than just damage himself. In his adrenaline-high and frantic state, he doesn't have time to take everything in properly. There's Catra, waking up. There are familiar faces here - there's Kayo. His brain scrambles and rushes to make sense of what's happening, but before he can--]
Stop—!!
[It's all crashing down. Nothing - no sight. No sound, beyond a high-pitched and shrill ringing. Nothing but disorientation. Nothing to hold onto but her familiar voice, once again distressed, once again unhappy, and it's always, always him.
It's probably merciful that a blast takes them out, at least. Being wholeass crushed by rubble is quick compared to the alternatives. He doesn't even have time to think in any non-erratic way before it's over.]
[ Amongst all his injuries, the bright neon tattoo against his thigh shouldn't feel like anything, but it burns into his skin now. The reminder of all his mistakes and shortcomings, the futility of his actions and dreams.
Something tips over his in his chest, unable to bear all that suddenly fills his heart while he grips the stupid smoke bomb tight and.
Just whips it at Mandricardo.
(He hopes it crushes through his skull. His and Yamato's.)
It doesn't matter, and this is might be where he would think of his loved ones (if he HAD ANY), so his last moments before the building crumbles, glare fixed on the wailing form of his wyvern, are nothing but rage and butthurt. ]
[The kids run ahead with Catra, and Sieghart sees the people inside the church from a distance. The muscles in his legs tighten as he runs through the horrific possibilities in his frenetic mind. Maya pulls away from Elesis and that's when he breaks into a sprint, ignoring the crunch he feels in his leg, to pull everyone back from the terrible trap.]
No! Don'tā
[Elesis, his treasured granddaughter who's strengthened her heart for the sake of their family's duty, would never show her distress so nakedly.
"We have people we want to save too."
The blinding flash of light stops Sieghart in his tracks, his shout drowned out by the explosion. He can't see, but he can hear themāthe myriad glass and rubble that fall in front of himāand all he can think about is whether or not they might've missed and spared the kids before he's crushed into oblivion.]
[this is one of those times fast it's good Catra is half conscious. she doesn't see Scorpia (her friend, someone she had wronged, someone to whom she needed to apologize) or Yamato (the only one with a level head in this whole damn place) or the bombs. she doesn't register what is happening, not even when the flash of white light crowds her hazy vision and the explosion engulfs them all]
[the only thing she can think as the lights of her life are flicked off for a second time is a confused ???!!?!! because. . . well. she really has no idea what happened, here!!]
