It's a little hard to wake up when the melody that drifts into your ears is so comforting that it'd be so much simpler to stay asleep. Maybe everything that you remember last - the cold seeping into your fingertips, the pain of injury, or the darkness creeping into your vision - will just be parts of a bad dream.

But it's not.

When you wake up, it's probably a little disorienting - you have to push off a blanket and rise from this nice comfortable mat on the floor. Seems like you were all curled up for nap time. Literally. The room that you're in has furniture meant for small humans, children as some might call them, and everything is soft and plush to the touch with rounded corners. Blocks with the alphabet etched onto them, coloring books and crayons, and even a rocking horse dot the room to really give it that childish charm. If you can think of a child-safe toy, it's probably in one of the baskets that line the shelves of the room!

Around the room they'll find baby monitors that broadcast the antics of the living. Hopefully that doesn't feel creepy.

There is a yard outside through the glass doors, but it currently seems to be locked - and the glass won't break no matter how hard you try. There's a large pink door that feels enormous, ten times as tall as you, on one side of the room, but there's no way through that either. At the very top, you might see a directory sign that says: TO ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.

Huh.

Well... for now, get comfortable. It looks like you might be here a while.

No. I've only seen a bunch of children's toys and some outdated laptops. [a beat.] What's up with those, anyway?

[ he looks over at it. ]

You may communicate with the other students with them. But you can only send one sentence. I put in a ticket with IT to fix it, and they haven't answered yet.

...wait, what? Like, can we email them, ooooor...?

The marquee in the cafeteria. The other two tried to use it before you showed up, but they just ended up fighting instead.

[well, luckily lwj doesn't seem like the type to get fighty with her. they'll just have to use it while kaoruko and hiyori are otherwise occupied.]

Sooo... you said you were looking for a set of keys? [she glances at the pink door, then at the glass doors.] For which of them? ...or did you have keys for both of them?

I seem to have lost the keys to the administration building...

[ he sounds so ashamed. ]

They were right here... how could I...

I dunno! That's a good question.

I'll help look for them, because frankly, I don't have any interest in sticking around here.

You cannot leave. You were expelled.

We've had two expulsions so far. "The expulsion of Kaoruko Hanayagi" and "The expulsion of Jang Manwol". Last I checked, that's not my name, and that's not his name either.

[she thumbs in the general direction of lan wangji, wherever he may be. is it past 9pm? maybe he's taking a nap.]

But fine, we can do this the official way if you want. How do we contact the board of education? I want to appeal my explusion.

Well, like I said, I'll help you look. Because, again, I don't plan on sticking around, and if you need those keys to get to the administrative office, how else am I supposed to appeal my expulsion, right?

[she's just gonna. head over to the glass doors and peek out into the yard... can she spot the wayward keys from here... what's out there...]

[ It'll just look like a yard! There's a fence, but from what they can see from this specific angle, it's just grass. No keys from what they can see.

He makes sad bear noises. ]

[rip. okay, she comes back.]

After you came in here, what did you do? Which parts of the room did you go to? Maybe we should retrace your steps.

[ he starts to walk, pausing at where the sleeping mats are placed. he looks at her. ]

Wow! That must be nice. I hope when I'm an adult I can get a job that pays me to take naps.

[I FEEL SO BAD ABOUT BULLYING THIS BEAR. lila does not, though.

anyway, she's meticulously combing through the naptime mats and blankets now, though i'm fairly sure this won't turn up anything.]
