It's a little hard to wake up when the melody that drifts into your ears is so comforting that it'd be so much simpler to stay asleep. Maybe everything that you remember last - the cold seeping into your fingertips, the pain of injury, or the darkness creeping into your vision - will just be parts of a bad dream.

But it's not.

When you wake up, it's probably a little disorienting - you have to push off a blanket and rise from this nice comfortable mat on the floor. Seems like you were all curled up for nap time. Literally. The room that you're in has furniture meant for small humans, children as some might call them, and everything is soft and plush to the touch with rounded corners. Blocks with the alphabet etched onto them, coloring books and crayons, and even a rocking horse dot the room to really give it that childish charm. If you can think of a child-safe toy, it's probably in one of the baskets that line the shelves of the room!

Around the room they'll find baby monitors that broadcast the antics of the living. Hopefully that doesn't feel creepy.

There is a yard outside through the glass doors, but it currently seems to be locked - and the glass won't break no matter how hard you try. There's a large pink door that feels enormous, ten times as tall as you, on one side of the room, but there's no way through that either. At the very top, you might see a directory sign that says: TO ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.

Huh.

Well... for now, get comfortable. It looks like you might be here a while.

[He nods. He'll ask.]

I didn't hear about it until this week. From my understanding, there's a script of a canceled show that features the Dorm Heads in this very academy. The principle's nature as a bear is part of the notes.

So, what - were we brought here to play out some rejected sitcom? Reality show? Ugh, what a mess.

Sounds like it. There was also . . . what was it? Hmm . . .

"Lifelong friendships? Heated competition? Rivals to lovers? Lies and deceit, steaminess and hot-blooded intensity? Eat your heart out, XOXO Gossip Squirrel."

...yep, sounds like trashy reality TV to me.

You know, you're more candid than I remember.

[dryly:]

Yeah, dying for someone else's murder can really change a girl.

[there's a beat, and then. she sighs.]

...sorry. I know it's not your fault, but it's hard not to be angry every time I see where I am and realized we're stuck here.

It's well within your rights to be angry.

But if we're still around with our memories and awareness intact, that means there must be a way to prevent us from being stuck here forever.

There better be.

I refuse to be like this forever. I've got things to get back to in my own world.

We'll find a way. There are those on the other side of these walls who already suspect the existence of this place.

[He pauses.]

If the Principal's trapped with us, who's filling out the sign-in sheet?

...sign-in sheet?

According to Caleb, Rupert has a sheet that looks like a sign-in sheet with your names on it. That's how people started suspecting that you guys aren't really dead.

[well, that's news to her.

she looks briefly at rupert, then away.]

...I don't know who's filling that out, then.

I haven't seen the sheet for myself, but . . . could the keys have been stolen?

By who? [her brow furrows] The bear was already looking for them by the time I woke up...

I don't know. It's worth the consideration, though, if all of you have been searching for this long to no avail.

I guess so. If it turns out it's just under the bear's hat or something, I'm gonna be mad.

. . . Are you telling me he hasn't checked under his own hat after all this time?

Apparently one of the first things it did after it got here was take a nap, so like, it wouldn't surprise me.

. . . I'll ask.

...that's probably a good idea. I think I might've, uh, scared the bear.

That bear's pretty timid for his size, isn't he?

Yeah, it's kinda surprising...

Take it easy on him, won't you? I'll do it this time, but I don't want to make it a habit to ferry messages.

[she sighs]
