It's a little hard to wake up when the melody that drifts into your ears is so comforting that it'd be so much simpler to stay asleep. Maybe everything that you remember last - the cold seeping into your fingertips, the pain of injury, or the darkness creeping into your vision - will just be parts of a bad dream.

But it's not.

When you wake up, it's probably a little disorienting - you have to push off a blanket and rise from this nice comfortable mat on the floor. Seems like you were all curled up for nap time. Literally. The room that you're in has furniture meant for small humans, children as some might call them, and everything is soft and plush to the touch with rounded corners. Blocks with the alphabet etched onto them, coloring books and crayons, and even a rocking horse dot the room to really give it that childish charm. If you can think of a child-safe toy, it's probably in one of the baskets that line the shelves of the room!

Around the room they'll find baby monitors that broadcast the antics of the living. Hopefully that doesn't feel creepy.

There is a yard outside through the glass doors, but it currently seems to be locked - and the glass won't break no matter how hard you try. There's a large pink door that feels enormous, ten times as tall as you, on one side of the room, but there's no way through that either. At the very top, you might see a directory sign that says: TO ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.

Huh.

Well... for now, get comfortable. It looks like you might be here a while.

Safer not to. We knew there would be, like, big and possibly very bad consequences if we told anyone why we were killing people each week... And we had no way of knowing what form the consequences would take, or who they might hurt. I really wanted to tell you guys, though.

[he nods.]

Oh, speaking of - we've been keeping, like, a list of information we all know. You can add to it if you learned anything new over the last week that we missed.

[pointing to a stack of paper.]

... I get it, but I think we're all leaning towards assuming you can't and are being controlled into doing things. Which could have complications in and of itself.

[ hm? ]

Oh, right. I'll give it a look over and add anything I can think of.

[heartlands]

[he blinks.]

What do you mean by complications?

[chevaliered]

If they're trying to understand and work out what's going on to figure everything out, I'm kinda worried they'll hyperfocus on and work around that and miss something.

[ stares into the distance. ]

If the consequences are as dire as you've been led to believe though, maybe it's just a case of weighing up the lesser of two crap situations.

From my understanding, whatever happened if we told them the truth would have been way worse than them hyperfocusing, so...

Not saying it wouldn’t be. Ah well, I guess they’re all kinda reasonable people. They probably can’t be too mad about it.

[heartlands]

...Yeah. I guess we'll see.

I have the distinct impression we don’t have much choice but to sit around and wait and see.

[heartlands]

...Yeah.

[a little groan]

Which is the worst! Seriously the worst. I mean, there's cooking or whatever on Wednesdays, but...

Yeah. A few days before you died we had to make pizza, and apparently the week before that Lan Wangji and Lila had to do something with food, too.

... ... Are... we just providing for the bear's snack time, or...?

He said it would be a great help, I think? But I have no idea how, or what impact it's having.

For what, his lunch break?

Good question! You know, maybe I should ask him what exactly it does... He's stupid, but I don't think he's malicious, so if he says it's helping I think it probably is.

[ snorts. ]

He's trying his best, whatever that is?

That's kind of sadder, in a way...

I'm not bullying him, he's can't even hear us.

He'll make sad bear noises and we'll all feel bad.
