FALL COMMON ROOM - WEEK 3

The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

This week, there's something else.

specialty room.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

When he wakes back up...we should play along, right? Like, go back to calling him Luke and treating him like he's just our Dorm Head whenever he's around. I feel bad about hiding it from him, but at the same time, I think anything else might make him suspicious of us...

What's he going to do if he's suspicious of us anyway? S'not like he can just kick us out, right?

Probably not, but... I don't think it would be great for the person in charge of us to think we're up to something behind his back.

Uhh... guess not. Should we keep talking about stuff out here then? Grab a table at the cafeteria instead away from him?

I think that it will only cause him distress if we try to break the illusion while he's trapped in it, yes.

That's what I was thinking. That's usually how it goes with...brainwashing.

Right. If he really doesn't know any different while he's under whatever this is, pretending otherwise is just gonna stress him out. Let's make this as easy as possible.

...Hopefully we'll get to talk to the real him again sooner rather than later.

... I agree that we should keep calling him Luke and not trying to force him to face reality, but we have to keep the Dorm Heads in the loop. Even if they can't believe us, they've got to be made aware of what's going on. And that includes whatever the hell we all did to him.

So...where do we draw the line?

We don't have to convince them that we're telling the truth. We just need to be honest about what we think is going on and what we're trying to do.

[ On Hope's visual cue he will redirect his question over here. ]

Do you think we should keep talking about sus stuff in the dorm around him then? Or like, get a table at the cafeteria or library or something?

The Dorm Heads don't know anything unless we tell them, but they're just as affected as we are by all of this. I'm not going to hide anything. As far as I could tell, so long as we're not actively trying to make him recall things from his other life, it doesn't seem to hurt them. Using their real names should be off the table for that reason, though.

I don't want to call him Luke if that's not his actual name.

Let's think of a nickname for him.

A table elsewhere means we could loop in the other dorms in too. Probably not all the time but it'd make it easier to exchange info

I agree with this. We must call him by the name he wants to be called, and we must not try to force him to recall things when he is under a compulsion not to. But we can try to bring these things up with him. And if he does not wish to hear it, then let that be a choice he makes rather than a decision we make for him.

[He looks a little awkward, crossing his arms.]

I have been under the influence of this sort of, uhm, memory altering spell before. While you're under it, probably nothing anyone will say will help for longer than a moment or two. And the confusion can be, uhm, distressing and painful. But that does not mean. . . I would not have wanted people who care for me to play along just for only my comfort.

Exactly. There's been enough choices taken from him right now. I'm not going to let us add to that by deciding what's easier for him.

Yes. Comfort is not the only thing in the world.

There you go. Talking about shitty things like this without fuzzy therapy is terrible.
