SUMMER COMMON ROOM - WEEK 5

common room.

The common room is as bright and open as the rest of the dorm. Beanbag chairs and even more hammocks are situated around for any of your resting needs, because who needs couches? There are a few blankets on the couch just for comfort, but the temperature is never cold enough to need them because of chill. There's also an absurd amount of pillows.

The walls are decorated with paintings that are either modern art pieces or done by kindergarteners. There are also photographs tacked onto the walls as well, of seemingly random things like a vase of flowers, a mailbox, a bird on a tree branch. The photos are less about grand views and feels more like someone testing out a camera.

On a table is a welcome basket.

specialty room.

In the common room, there's a door that leads to what can only be described as an Occult Room for some strange reason. Unlike the rest of the dorm, this room is dimly lit and is crowded with itemsโ€”a skeleton that may or may not be real, taxidermy animals, really creepy looking dolls, an actual coffin, etc. On a table to the side is a Ouija board, a few tarot decks, and crystal ball.

Please use this as an open post for members of Summer Dorm. You may post top-levels whenever you'd like and go wild. A new post will go up at the start of each week.

[ ha ha... ]

Oh, there's a good chance, I wager. The place is vacant enough as it is.

[ awkward ]

Ah, then I hope you don't mind me helping myself. I have weird sleeping habits, so it'd be less intrusive.

'Tis not I you will have to take that up with, for I sleep in the bunk beds of our suite. Mayhap you'll find that, whoever you room with, is an agreeable sort.

[ Looks over at Nier. Smirks. ]

Yeah, I think this place will suit me just fine.

[ he chuckles, lightly ]

Full glad am I to hear. Allow me to welcome you to summer, as well as... your dragon?

She's a wyvern.

[ He nudges said lizard. The lizard does not budge. ]

No front legs or fire breathing, so she's probably closer to the those geese roaming campus.

Ah—yes, a wyvern, more specifically... Dragonkind, more or less, all fall under the same umbrella whence I hail, you see.

Ah, really? We technically don't have dragons where I come from. Are they normal for you?

[ "technically" ]

[ spoon please i've never touched a fire emblem ]

Quite so; dragons exist in great numbers, though they oft keep to themselves in the region of Dravania. Nonetheless, it is still entirely possible to find one along your travels through other lands.

[ He looks interested. ]

Are they intelligent? It'd make our journeys back home far more exciting to run into something like that.

[personal profile] arcsplainist 2021-07-12 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ a nod ]

Indeed, they think and feel the very same as you and I. I have had many personal experiences with dragons, so I confess it surprises me to see a wyvern being kept as a companion.

[ He doesn't know if "pet" is the right word... ]

[ He hums, apparently thinking very deeply about this. ]

She's a pretty smart girl, I'd say, but yeah, wyverns aren't so different from horses and pegasi where I'm from. Out of curiosity, do the dragons have... towns? Shops? Entertainment?

Not in the way we do, for certain. Though they tend to live out in the wilds, the Churning Mists—a holy land to the dragons—is where they call home. I hear they are fond of song, as well. Or, at least, 'tis how they pass down their history through the generations.

Just frolicking, eating and singing? That sounds like quite a life.

[ no taxes... no mortgages... ]

Did you befriend any?
arcsplainist: (pic#14409952)

[personal profile] arcsplainist 2021-07-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yeah, Claude. The easy life. ]

In a sense. It would be more accurate to say we've done well to make a strong alliance with them.

Against...?

[ Either Claude did not heed the warnings during his auction date blurbs, or he truly is the perfect candidate for Alphinaud. ]

Oh—well, about that. Until but recently, dragons did not take kindly to mankind, for they had been locked in a war for nigh on a thousand years with the nation of Ishgard—the Dragonsong War, they called it. It very well could have continued on, too, for the great dreadwrym Nidhogg was hellsbent on making the people suffer for as long as he lived. Fortunately, however, the war had managed to come to an end, and the rift 'twixt man and dragon has been mended. 'Tis not perfect, of course, but now we are able to aid each other rather than be the cause of much turmoil.

[ VERY interesting!! ]

What were they fighting over?
arcsplainist: (pic#14961047)

[personal profile] arcsplainist 2021-07-13 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
In short, a betrayal. They had once lived together in harmony, but in man's inevitable greed for power, a small group of people had killed a wrym of the first brood. In his sorrow and fury, Nidhogg had retaliated.

[personal profile] shaft 2021-07-13 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
People really are the same all across the different worlds? Equally greedy, equally generous...

How long did the war go on?
arcsplainist: (pic#13188323)

[personal profile] arcsplainist 2021-07-13 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Even across the rift, very little changes... 'Twas a thousand-year war, it was. Though mere mortals such as you and I come and go, dragons outlive us by a great and many years, and so, they had never forgotten the betrayal.
shaft: (war ยป a67)

[personal profile] shaft 2021-07-13 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
A thousand years. [ He whistles. ] To stop a war that's festered for so long is quite impressive. I've love to hear how you managed it.

That... is quite a story, I should warn. Our first attempt at a parley with the dragons did not go over so well; it took many moons, and many tries. There was bloodshed and loss. But... hm.

Even the dragons had to realize there is no hope to be found in bottomless fury, and naught to gain by slaying man, and in kind being slain by their hand.
