But as they run, they'll see an apartment building in the distance. It stands out, given that there's a lot of lights on through the windows compared to the other buildings around, that are all still primarily dark. ]

What, you know what they're doing?

[But end is in sight!!! He's running to that apartment building.]

Assuming they reach the apartment building, she will check out the entrance first. Is it unlocked?

How is Hector doing in her shirt papoose, by the way?]

I'm just making sure they're taking good care of Miku.

This door is unlocked. The inside takes them to an area with mailboxes, a set of stairs, and an elevator. Beyond that is a long hallway that has apartment doors on either side. ]

All the way up.

What's Miku? Who's....Miku?

[Anyways! Wow, they're finally here. Looking at the elevator.]

Maybe...the stairs? Since I don't trust this thing to break down on us.

[She glances at the elevator... and slowly nods.]

Or someone totally crazy'll hop in with us... What a bummer.

[Is there anything of note about the mailboxes? Are any of them unlocked...? She will take a quick look around to make sure there's nothing useful here, before she starts making her way to the stairs.]

[ Hector makes a bat noise. She's getting a little fussy.

They all seem locked, except for the one that reads 420. There's only an ad to a pet store inside the box.

The staircase is quiet, to the point that each step they take echoes through it. ]

Shhh, shh, it's okay, Hector...

[And...wow, this staircase.]

How...high is this apartment building again?

[W... Why... Is there anything out of the ordinary written on the ad?

Anyway, she gently scratches Hector's little noggin, offering her a snack.]

With our luck...?

[It's going to be like 50 stories high, isn't it?]

[ Hector will take her snack and nibble on it.

The ad reads PET ADOPTION! A SPECIAL SALE FOR ONE DAY ONLY! MEET YOUR FURRY NEW DEFINITELY NOT CURSED BEST FRIEND! BECOME A HAPPY FURAMILY OR ELSE!

It's high enough. But, at least for now, it's just them and the quiet. ]

Ugh. Well, this might take a while...

[Just looking around as they get to each floor, noticing if anything is off.]

Hey, why do people think Hector is "cursed", anyways?

Hmm... The problem likely lays at the feet of the world.

[This world is fucked up, y'all. She pats Hector as they make their way up, keeping an eye out as well.]

But, Tanaka-san, what's up with this advertising?

Hm? Oh, you know. We need the business. And it got you there!

[ No, it didn't.

As they walk, they hear a door for the stairwell open somewhere. ]

Ichinose, what the hell does that mean?

[Just. Freezing.]

[And whispering over to Ichinose.]

Someone is coming to us, huh.

[She opens her mouth to answer, but— Well.

She presses a finger to her lip, tugging him along. Shhh, no talking.

... Are these stairs of the looping type? Assuming there's a handrail and wall, she will move to hide behind it. Does it sound like someone is heading their way, or in another direction?]

[dormheads]

[ They are the looping type. And it sounds like someone is coming down from higher than they are.

Tanaka starts humming. ]

[duranduel]

[ANGRILY LOOKING UP AT THE CEILING HE HATES YOU SOOO MUCH TANAKA-SAN]

[But yeah, sounds like someone coming down. He gestures for Ichinose to go to the other side of the stairs, raising his bat as he goes up a little further than her. If he gets knocked down, he won't fall back into her. Hopefully.]

[Ichinose nods, doing as requested while brandishing her own bat.

When it sounds like the mystery person is turning the corner, she will immediately try to take a swing at them, aiming for the gut.

Can't wait for this person to be totally harmless and here she is, brutalizing them.]

[dormheads]

[ They will notice two things.

The first, is that this is a visible old man, who immediately crumples to the floor as soon as he was hit.

The second is that he had a taser, so like, maybe it was for the best. ]

[duranduel]

[wow grandpa manslaughter]

...Tch. [He just noticed the taser after a moment of panic, and turns to Ichinose, tugging at her sleeve.] C'mon. Let's get goin'.

She double taps grandpa and steals his taser.]

Yes, let's!

[Up they go...]

[ Hector chirps! +1 taser

But up they go. It takes a while of climbing, but they'll eventually reach the top floor and can enter the hallway. There's about 12 apartments total on the floor, with 6 on each side of the hall. ]

[duranduel]

[Yeah, he's going to take a good breather. His face still smarts from the bat injury. Great.]

[Now peering down the hallway.]

Tanaka...which one is ours...?

Do we even have our keys...?

[In case Tanaka isn't helpful, she will quietly check the doors for nameplates or any indication of who lives there.]

[ There are no nameplates! Ichinose will hear some noises from some of the rooms, indicating that there are people inside already. ]
