[rita turns to face the enemy and backs away, but instead of a smooth backstep, her feet move sluggishly, and she can't make much distance between them.
she hears a familiar crackle of magic in the air and sees what malik's doing in her periphery.]
[we're gonna talk about manwol's issues later. taichi finds himself listening to his surroundings more closely now that his vision's out and progressively getting harder to actually deal with, so when he hears rita he turns.
granted, he also hears the crackle and hears the warning.]

[and so, he's immediately grabbing rita instead to tackle her out of the way to dodge the lightning, hitting the ground a little hard and rolling out of the way. as you do. they're not staying on the ground for long though in case they need to bolt again.]
[A stray arc of lightning catches Rita and Taichi, but most of it does hit Mago... and black smoke emanates from her where she's struck, her form becoming unstable.
"Guys, listen, we never got to this room on our trip through, she bailed on me before this point so I don't know how rough this is gonna get," Cam warns.
The black smoke resolves into this, the screens changing to Malik's scenery-- and as it blinks toward him, emanating heat, it's immediately clear that it kept a thing or two from its previous form.]
Manwol picks her staff back up and blinks rapidly at the changing scenery, and then at the LION THING??]
What the hell is that!?
[GOD CAN'T DO THIS!!!
anyway she'll hobble on over to Rita and Taichi because apparently they got hit by a stray arc of lighting, and try to help their crispy crackly bodies back up,]
[ malik is not focused on anything else right now. he can't even focus on the setting change, he only cares about one thing right now, and that's survival. he still can't run, though, but damn if he isn't going to try. ]
-- That's Ammit the Devourer!
[ hopefully that's enough information to motivate the gang to go! to face ammit is to face a fate worse than death: she's what you see when you fail judgment. she is destruction. she is the end.
but hey you know how malik can't really run? he's wheezing before he gets too far, and ammit approaches swiftly and chomps down on his skinny leg with her horrible crocodile jaws. malik yelps and is absolutely, positively terrified. he can't think. he's going to die. there's nothing in the end. this is it.
he has one last thing he can try, the ONLY thing he can try before she eats his heart: jab her in the nose. please for all that is sacred let this work. ]
[taichi's lunging at her, and the next thing rita knows, they're on the ground rolling. cam gets dislodged from the scarf-sling and ends up rolling away from them, which probably works in his favor because the next thing that happens is the two of them getting zapped.
rita's body convulses, and then she gasps, grasping at taichi without any clear purpose, like she just needs to make sure her hands will move. something smells burnt.
fortunately, manwol's there to cut through the haze of pain and help her get back to her feet, just in time to see malik getting chomped by their new foe.]
[WHY IS IT ALWAYS LIGHTNING. there's a yelp as he finds both of them struck down, temporarily jarred and disoriented. manwol helps them to their feet and taichi turns toward the sound of malik's voice. ]
Really don't like anything with the name "devourer" in it! [but he staggers to his feet, hoping manwol can guard rita as he rushes to the large blob and attempts to slash and stab down into its head as malik punches it in the nose. maybe he can pin the jaws closed before it chomps malik.]
[Being jabbed in the nose doesn't quite get her to let go of Malik's leg, which is probably going to be in pretty rough shape after this! Taichi stabbing her in the head, on the other hand, does. Being impaled in the head appears to be a weakness.
RNG says Taichi does not accidentally stab into Malik's leg which is in her mouth as he does this due to his poor vision, you're welcome. Black smoke spews out from the sword wound, and Ammit roars; when that happens, they'll all find themselves temporarily frozen and filled with absolute terror.
The black smoke resolves once again, and they find this where Ammit stood. It emits a burst of heat that will catch both Taichi and Malik, before everyone is able to move once more.]
[Manwol's not sure what she can really do to help defend Rita when her condition is this terrible, but then again it's not like she got electrocuted or SET ON FIRE like the others?? Not like she could even react when she's frozen in fear, petrified as Ammit disappears and the bird?? monster?? replaces it -- and them immediately attacks Taichi and Malik. SHIT. ARE THEY OKAY? ARE THEY DEAD?
Manwol attempts to help usher Rita further from the range of that HEAT burst, since running towards the boys will probably not be as helpful, even if she does want to help and confirm if they're DEAD OR NOT!!!]
Rita, point to where it is!!
[BECAUSE MANWOL CANNOT SEE. she hoists her staff and will throw it in the direction Rita gives her, hoping that it hits the creature instead of.......... the boys.............. please]
[rita's eyes widen with recognition as she's ushered away.]

[... she'll help point manwol at it, then searches the floor... there. she grabs cam and stuffs him back in the sling.]

[she'll grab manwol's hand and run over towards malik, the one who's the least able to follow that command she just gave. hopefully taichi's not far, either.
she'll start casting. once again, motes of light gather around her, and a magic circle appears at her feet. but this time, lines of light circle her in a spherical configuration. between this and the longer casting time, one might surmise that this is a more powerful spell than her previous ones.
unfortunately, that delay might give phaeroh a chance to act before she finishes her spell, conjuring a big-ass tidal wave to crash through the room and swirl around them.]
[better question, why is it always lightning and fire!!! HE LITERALLY JUST GOT HEALED. it's fine though. (it is not.) the blast that follows catches him off guard, unable to move thanks to ammit and the sudden flare of heat is almost too much.
it's fine. he'll deal with his burns later because he's pulling the sword back and launching himself back toward the rest of the group to huddle close by, sword still at the ready to swing at phaeroh if the creature tries to lunge while rita's casting.]
[When Manwol throws the staff, it screeches; the strike does hit, but the staff quickly burns up, and now this bird is Angry.
Rita's the one casting, but Manwol is the one who threw the staff at it... so it's trying to swoop at Manwol to attack her with its beak and claws, while Rita finishes that spell.]
[Manwol has a split second to realize that the bird is aiming for her specifically, so she does what everyone would do when a giant monster bird flies at you.
You take advantage of its attention, so that everyone else can finish it off.
She does try to dodge just enough to avoid being split in two, but the claws rake against her right shoulder and down the length of her back, and the beak pierces the spot between her shoulders --
but there's no blood, and Manwol staggers upright without falling, so she's fine. she'll just try to keep it in one place so that it's in range for Rita's spell,]
[ malik, meanwhile, has to be shuffled around with some help between his now nonfunctional leg and the burns. he used what little magic he had, so now its a matter of relying on everyone else. again. ugh.
[and while rita's casting and manwol takes the hit, there's a wince of his own even as he stays on-guard, ready to move in case phaeroh, somehow, survives this wave.
but there's also a murmur of "holy shit" under his breath because wow, that's really cool.]
The tidal wave does take care of Phaeroh, though! It screams as it's doused, and they'll all find themselves horrorstruck once more as it sinks into the water, then the water drains away.
At first, it looks like nothing might happen, but then smoke comes pouring out of the floor, growing and growing until it resolves into... this.]
[it's fine! he's just staring at this thing in equal parts terror and anger.]
...I still have Baby Flame, too. Get me up there and I'll take it down. [which is to say he's readying himself with his sword again. i'm sure this looks weird, but considering he was wielding a keyblade the entirety of his last adventure this is just normal now.]
[Yeah, definitely look out for its wings! They shiver, and the motion rains down a bunch of feathers that appear to be made out of that same black smoke they've been seeing.
If anyone gets touched by a feather, they'll suffer a sharp pain where it landed, and it'll take another sacrifice from them.
As they figure out what to do, though, its mouth opens, and it looks like it's charging something up.]
[Manwol doesn't know what's going on, but she can tell Rita and Taichi have some kind of plan. She glances at Malik who is still out, and grabs him by the arms to try and drag him to -- safety?
It's charging up, but for what?
A feather brushes her cheek, and she sees a face in her memories -- yeon-woo, and then she feels that face vanishing -- that entire person, no, no no --
but she grits her teeth and hauls Malik as fast as possible away anyway]
[ malik is near literal dead weight at this point, but he can kind of, sort of, help push himself with his nonmangeled leg to try to help manwol move him. this sucks.
when the feathers start falling, he can't dodge so oops-- that's more memories gone. it's like he said before: it's all he has left. except now those are dwindling too as the memory of his family fades from his mind. ]
[with a firm nod, rita moves to get behind taichi. but one of those feathers flutters into her leg. the initial pain is bad enough...
but with the next step she takes, there's a terrible crack. she lets out a choked cry of pain and stumbles, grabbing taichi for support.]
I'm fine. I'm fine! We can do this.
[she wraps an arm around his chest from behind, and suddenly, the two of them are weightless. her leg dangles at an unfortunate angle, but she doesn't need to use it. they're flying. she'll keep taichi turned to face the main body of the creature, trying to close the distance... but seeing it charge something, she's ready to attempt some mid-air evasion, too.
[there's a frustrated noise because noooooo this is bad!! but suddenly they're floating! they are floating and a feather brushes against his leg as he tries to pull back.
and like that, there are memories of a little orange dinosaur that fly out of his brain, filtering and disappearing like they were never there at all.
as rita turns him toward the body...two things happen. a.) he opens his hand and flings a medium-sized fireball straight into ordinemon's mouth and face. and b.) he adjusts the sword with both hands and swings as hard as he can to try and cut through the tops of its wings.]
