In the common room, the walls have been painted with photo-like pictures of forests and lakes, and spread across the ceiling is a depiction of the night sky. One wall is lined with bookcases, the books ranging from fiction to non-fiction as well used course textbooks. More bookcases have been used to section off one corner for a study area, with a desk and chair provided.

Elsewhere, there are a few couches and chairs, most seated around a coffee table and with throw blankets tossed over them if you need the extra warmth. On the table is a bowl of healthy and semi-healthy snacks, regularly stocked. (Nearby is a garbage can.)

This week, there is a welcome basket near the bowl.

Past an entrance in the common room, a mini coffeehouse has been set up, with express machines for those who just want their coffee now and slightly more advanced equipment for aficionados. It offers a variety of strength levels and flavors to accommodate tastes all across the spectrum, along with a teapot and packets of caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea for those who prefer a different drink. There's a sink if you want to use your own mug, but otherwise, disposable cups are provided for you to use.

It was bitter, so I used some of the flavor syrups in there.

And you're... a student, right? What do you study, anyway?

That's right. Remember how I said you were kinda lucky you didn't go to a regular school? On Earth, kids have to go to school and learn all kinds of subjects. Math, history, science, languages...stuff like that. After you take your entrance exams and get into university, then you start picking what you really want to do with your future.

[except when he says this, it's pretty obvious he's not exactly connected to the conversation, like he's not sure he believes it.]

And have you decided what you're picking?

Ah...no, not really. I've been thinking about it but the future's still kinda far.

It won't be far for long. Better make sure you get your act together soon.

Yeah, I know. [grumbling. it's still far enough, let him live.] I'm pretty sure it can wait until we get out of here though, at least.

Do you have anything you like doing, at least?

[this conversation feels a little like deja vu from one he had months ago, and it's hilarious he still doesn't have an answer. and by hilarious, it's awful.]

Yeah, but I'm still deciding how to make a future out of it.

[because he gets the feeling sticking with "I like being with my friends" isn't going to fly this time, even if it's still true. and this conversation is...iffy, at best.]

If we're starting classes Monday, maybe we'll get to pick our own. But usually when you start school classes are picked for you.
