That sounds like it might be the case for Sieghart's death, especially if that note is to be believed. I don't know if that's the case for the others, though. If it were just a matter of believing a lie, that wouldn't explain why they refuse to speak.
It's possible that this place influenced Caiman, but based off what I've heard of that case, it's equally possible that he acted independently. I don't know which is better or worse, if either at all.
