FALL COMMON ROOM - WEEK 2

The common room of the Fall Dorm has soft, dimmer lighting; plush carpet over wood; and several comfortable chairs and sectionals. A few big windows overlook the dormitory area of campus, but there is also a single, cozy bay window on one side.

A television and bluetooth surround-sound are here for Fall students who are more inclined to be tech savvy. In the cabinets under the entertainment stand are an assortment of board games, but the television does have a generic "free tv" app for shows and music.

Above the enormous center fireplace is a moody painting.

This week, there's something else.

specialty room.

Through a door on the first floor, there is an antigravity room. Stepping just a few feet through the doorway will lift everyone up into the air. The seating and most of the rest of the room remains somehow rightfully in place on the floor and will not move. Students, however, can grab pillows and blankets, cups or bowls, or other small items to bring into the air with them.

Anyway Lalli is in the common room, and he is nibbling on some orchard fruit he swiped and brought back, when he suddenly thinks of something.]

Since we had a 'winter formal' and it's apparently winter now, then New Years is long past. I wonder why they didn't say anything about it, that seems like a pretty big holiday to miss.

... Winter usually starts just a little before the New Year. Unless it's different in your world?

[the thought of spending the new year here is sending her, though. my god.]

I still have sparklers from the winter formal.

We could celebrate New Years, if we wanted to.

Mmm. Welcome a New Year, and hopefully a better one.

It never snows early enough in November to have snow on New Years. Does it snow earlier in other places?

It depends on where you live. In my world, some places will see snow as early as October. Pretty crazy, right?

Mm, it can vary drastically with only a short distance.

My kingdom is located just south of a mountain range known for its hostile cold, so the farther north you go, the earlier you will see snow.

It can get pretty wild like that in my world, too. Usually the higher you go, the colder it is. Climate, am I right?

[silentscout]

That early? Do they just have a really short summer because of that?

[Someone has never left the same general climate area, not even once, in his entire life.]

It depends. For example, there is a place called Alaska with a summer that lasts only four weeks.

Four weeks? That's not even a summer!

I know, right?! I feel sorry for them.

I guess it's less time being hot and miserable, but a long, cold winter can be hard too.

[headsplitter]

[ SLAMS IN THROUGH THE DOORWAY AT THE MENTION OF NEW YEARS LIKE A LIZARD SHAPED KOOL-AID MAN except not really he probably just sits up from where he is. ]

Wait, we missed New Years?!

If it's 'winter' already we did. Winter officially starts in December, long after New Years.

[headsplitter]

Huh? That's not right. New Years is in January!

[ I almost wrote 'New Years is in December!' and it would've been the single most stupid thing I've ever written this game and it's not even IC. ]

No, it's in fall. November 1st.

[headsplitter]

[ ...??? ]

It's January 1st... it's a New, Year! Your calendar starts at November?!

Yeah? November, December, January, February, and so on.

Why would the New Year start in January? That's the third month of the year!

WHAT?!

The year starts in January! It's written 'First Month'?! [ Because Caiman is ostensibly Japanese...??? ]

I wouldn't exactly say time passes "normally" around here, so...

The seasons have been going fast, yeah.

The scripts people have been finding mentioned that things were only planned for, like... eight TV seasons, right? So they're probably trying to fit all four seasons into the time we're here, two weeks per. It adds up.

I don't like the implications of this. If we're all going to be a year older by the end of this, then I refuse.
