We called Pest Control to no avail - but I wonder if Principal Bear himself is willing to handle the matter. I suppose I can reach out to him and ask again.
May as well. He took care of 'em when they were about to go after Sieghart again. [weird how there's a pest control and yet people are wandering around with squirrels in their pockets.]
...how often do you get to talk to the principal anyway?
[also, since she's closer now, he will send the ball over with a little kick.]
[i want to be very clear that she's not really good at this. but she will regardless waddle over to the ball and make an attempt to kick it back. the line isn't very straight but she's trying.]
Hmm... Every few days, perhaps..? We run into him sometimes but our schedules don't always align.
[listen. she's doing her best and that's all that matters. also he spends more time playing with a tiny dinosaur than anyone should so it's not even that bad. he will just chase the ball...]
I was just wondering. He seemed pretty worried about you guys on Saturday, but when I talked to some of the others it made it sound like it was harder to get any information from him. How long has he been the principal here?
Most of the worlds people come from don't have principal bears, that's all. I guess what I should be asking is how he got the job. He sounded like he was still getting used to it.
[assume that every now and then he will kick the ball back to her even if she sends it across the field in the wrong direction.]
[he is so patient. she will just keep waddling after the ball and trying to do a better job of sending it back to him. she will gradually improve, little by little, but sometimes still send it a little wonky]
I presume he applied similarly to most educational administration positions. You can maybe ask Luke how long he's been here? Luke has been enrolled in the school the longest of all of us.
But if you're talking about the situation over the weekend in particular, I think it took all of us by surprise.
[effort goes a long way, and it makes him feel better to be doing something instead of sitting around. so there it go.]
I was going to ask Luke later. There's a few things I want to ask, and I want to get to know him a little better anyway. Just in case. But I also thought it would be helpful to ask all of you.
[especially when she gets right to the heart of the matter.]
It's one of the things I'm thinking about, yeah. It...[how to phrase this.] Hanayagi was in your dorm, right? Did she ever speak to you?
Of course - you need your second opinions, don't you?
[though she sounds a little teasing, calling back to the week before.
there's the slightest pause at the question, before she speaks. her voice is a bit softer, but her tone remains understanding.]
... it's okay if you'd like to ask me things more directly, you know. It'd be silly to assume that any of you trust me or any of us - as long as you're polite to the others, I don't mind what you say to me.
But no, we didn't talk very much. I don't have any better idea why she acted than the rest of you. I've been trying to ask what others know as well.
[there's a half-smile that flickers for a moment because he gets what the callback is. on the other hand...ah. right.]
It's not that I don't trust you guys. [except it kind of is in a weird way. it's difficult to explain exactly what his position is here where he wants to believe the heads are just as lost but knowing that people in positions of authority have screwed him over before.] I want to, at least, and I do think you're doing and saying what you think is true. But I have to wonder how much is being withheld from you, too. You don't think it's weird you all got sick at the same time?
[the ball goes back.] She said something about...how there was something bigger happening? I don't really know what that means or why she would think something like that. Do you?
[she waddles to the ball and then pauses, letting her mascot footsie rest on it as she seems to deliberate her answer]
... I've told others who suggested such things to me that I'd - take it into consideration. I'm doing my best to listen and understand but... Well, the four of us were all in assorted meetings together last week. It wouldn't be odd for us to have all been served one bad dish, or caught a bug from each other either.
[she'll kick the ball back then but the mascot body does a little wobble side to side like she's thinking]
Coincidences exist but I'm not against the idea of a theory being created of something else... I just don't know what that something else would be. I'm not sure why she'd suggest that something larger was at play when this is merely a school.
[he stops the ball with his foot, letting is go from side to side between his feet in time with viola's own swaying. ]
When you guys say things like that, it raises some suspicions. Maybe this place really is just a school, but if there's some legacy that makes it a murder academy, obviously people are going to be upset. And okay, so you guys were all together. But for all of you to get sick and then get better at the same time?
...I don't know. There are a lot of possibilities and I don't know which one I should even be looking at. If any. Especially when I still don't have proof we asked to be here.
Ah - but I think that's where there's a misunderstanding... There's nothing that makes this school distinctly prone to murder. We've had a very long history without murder. And while I can acknowledge that there's an oddity with your new class being brought here and one of you suddenly choosing to kill another, it's not as if we're founded on the idea of violence.
[but she hums thoughtfully]
I don't mind thought experiments and logic exercises - but at the same time... the reasoning is what eludes me. What purpose would it serve for all four of us to not be present during the weekend? We have less authority to change things than Principal Bear.
I don't mean to discount your suspicions entirely - rather... I think that more information still needs to be collected.
Of course it does. That's where I get stuck, I guess. I'm not the person who knows how to find information and where to get it. [not entirely true, but he does usually leave it to koushiro instead.] I want to know about the school's history because even if there is a long history without murder, there seems to be a history that involves it, too. I was hoping for archives. Newspapers. Anything like that?
...there are plenty of reasons people would take other people out of the picture and hide them away. [unfortunately this is also a very specific thing he's dealt with very recently so he may be biased. ] But how the four of you are connected to this still isn't clear to us either.
Hmm... You can keep looking through the library, I suppose. I provided Luxanna a basic summary of the school's founding, though given that I wasn't aware of the previous incident that started this whole thing, I couldn't include that.
Then if there are plenty of reasons, we ought to determine which one it is in order to properly posit this theory. But you're right - it seems many things remain unclear. I don't believe anyone is really moving forward with the intention of being idle about it all...
But I'm afraid that the four of us do have our own limitations of what knowledge we possess as students. Not that we aren't trying, of course.
I read the forum the first day you guys got to talk to us and I've been asking around. Chad said there was some incident in school history, and the principal said there was a legacy and rules in place he can't change. It sort of implies that there's a history here that we should probably be concerned about.
[he doesn't reply to that though because he can think of some people who aren't exactly being idle, but are approaching this in ways he isn't sure of.]
I get that you guys are trying. I think it's just other people that need a little more convincing but...I'm not sure how to do that either.
That's all correct - the incident happened near the founding, which is why the rules appeared after the murder. Principal Bear didn't have the authority to adjust those, and we must ultimately comply with school tradition in that sense... but it's not as though murder is common or expected. If anything, I find it more odd that it happened just as we ran into the issue with all of your admissions.
But oh... well, it's not up to you to change anyone's minds regarding us. I appreciate the sentiment though. All I can hope for is that people will talk to us and come to their own conclusions. I understand that it's a complicated situation, at least. No one's feelings on us could possibly be straightforward right now.
Probably because our admissions aren't real. Or, if they are, I still haven't seen my application and I can't think of anything that would get me to apply here. I was kinda in the middle of something.
...you said that admissions to the school had been low lately, right? Any idea why that is? [the ball...is kicked.]
I can hope that for people, too, but I don't know if they will. Do you have any idea why your emails were bouncing back?
Ah, admissions taking a dip is a common trend through all universities. I wouldn't say that's a particularly unique situation Wiwaldi is in. If you receive more applications but aren't able to expand seats for students, then the admissions rate goes down. That's all it is.
As for the emails... I think it's something to do with IT? We don't manage all the technology on campus, I'm afraid. I wasn't even aware there was an issue until someone mentioned it to me.

[taichi your jacket]
You aren't warm? Though I suppose it's a bit silly for me to be asking you that question...
no subject
Nah. This isn't so bad. It'd be different if it was actually a practice. [but he frowns.] Are the geese bothering you, too?
no subject
The geese have been my greatest enemy at this school, Taichi. I'll find a way to win victory over them yet.

You could just ask the bear. He scared them off on Saturday when we went to check out summer dorm.
no subject
Did he...
